Sometimes, people stand up for transgenders as if they were friend. Last year, my brother and me were walking down the street when we saw a man yelling at a woman. The man was shouting at her, calling her a tranny. The woman had her head down but when she looked up, her face was like a man who put on a wig, and who knows, it could have been. The woman said something, but I didn’t hear it, but the man seemed like he grew angrier. The woman looked like she was going to cry. Then a guy in a suit and what seemed like his date walked in and noticed the argument. The couple walked towards the situation and they joined the argument but against the man. They started to defend the woman, that’s when I heard that the woman was really a transgender …show more content…
The man continued his argument and started to talk about how he had walked into the men's restroom to find a women peeing in a stall. He exclaimed that, why didn’t she just go into the woman’s restroom, but then noticed that she was a transgender. He made a face when he said it, and proceeded to say really horrible things, but the couple stopped him and said that she is as equal as everyone. They created their counter argument rather quickly. This went on for a couple minutes and they calmed the man down. He said okay then, I don’t really care anymore, she could go to any restroom she wants like you two said. He then walked away leaving his unfinished food behind. The woman thanked the couple and looked as if she had been crying. A transgender, 25 year old woman named Avery Edison travelling from London, England was detained at Pearson Airport by Canada Border Service Agency. According to her, the reason for her detention was due to an immigration issue involving her overstaying a previous student visa. Despite being identified as a female on her passport, Avery had male genitalia. Avery tweeted that she would be assessed by a nurse before being placed in a male or female cell. But not only is the news organizations not reporting on this but Black Lives Matter did not show much support, which brought about even a bigger fight from the black gay community. A fight to show that now only do “black lives matter” but “all black lives matter”, to include women and transgender black people. This type of intersectionality is similar to the oppression of what women of color went through in the past. Not only women of color discriminated against because of race but they had to contend of being discriminated against because of gender also. Transgender is an umbrella term, meaning an individual’s gender-identity does not align with their assigned sex at birth. Although transgender is a protected class in eighteen states, these individuals still face discrimination within the country and around the world (“Non-Discrimination Laws”). Transgender is not a lifestyle, no one chooses to live their life constantly being discriminated against. Transgender issues should be more educated on and their lives should be more protected.

This topic is very controversial due to many arguments about the differences between the male and female physique. The natural biological differences between males and a females play a huge role in this controversy. These difference become serious issues when athletes want to compete for their non-biological sex. Early April 2016, North Carolina passed a law restricting governments from passing laws that are discriminatory. This law is intended to protect Transgender people from discrimination. You and your child are walking through the grocery store,and she says, “I have to go to the bathroom”. You say okay and take her to the bathroom. When you enter the women’s bathroom there are no empty stalls so you wait in line. When finally a person unlocks the door to a stall and walks out. This person is a transgender male. He doesn’t look like a female and your child asks you ,”mom why is that boy in the girls bathroom?” what would you say to your young child? Transgendered individuals have recently been facing many obstacles concerning their freedom of expression and personal preferences. One of these challenges is the right to use whichever bathroom they deem appropriate to their gender identity. Legislation has passed laws that prohibit transgendered persons from using bathrooms that don’t match their sex. Some laws have even gone as far as to limit based on outward appearance alone. Many retail locations have changed policies to cater to those who feel displaced due to these laws. They’ve provided unisex bathrooms and thus given transgenders an option outside of female or male only bathrooms. Transgender Today Nowadays, there are lot of unexpected changes coming in our lives every day which are challenging to our society. Gender issues are one of the hot topics among new changes. Transsexuality is a critical part of this gender issue. After reading the article “Night to his day” by Judith Lorber, I found a clarification regarding the social construction of gender. While looking for some facts about transgender, I have also found a lot of articles with different points of views from researchers, scientists and individuals who have transformed from their origin to transgender men/women.
Within the recent years, the transgender movement has become more apparent than ever. With television shows like “RuPaul’s Drag Race”, “Keeping It Up With Cait” and “I Am Jazz”, the voices of transgender people are more public than ever. Celebrities like Caitlyn Jenner and Laverene Cox are changing the face of the movement by showing people that it is never too late to be their true selves. American laws are acknowledging the rights of transgender people, but not in a positive way. These are just people trying to be their best selves. Transgender people deserve to have all the rights that a non transgender person has.

Some individuals may feel like their views are being respected, and they can accept using an alternative bathroom instead of either a male or female restroom. Other individuals will continue to see that their needs are not being met and they will continue to fight for their rights. On the other side, there are other individuals in the country who will continue to fight to keep individuals that were born as a male and choose to identify as a female and vice versa out of the same bathroom as their young children. Creating single toilet non gender specific restrooms for use for any individual may be the only solution to the transgender bathroom
