Tragedy in Child Protection
There are many flaws throughout the childcare system, which can alter the overall goal of protecting children. Today, there have been several such cases in child protection that resulted in tragedy. This may happen in the foster care system itself, or in the child’s primary home.
Child Protective Services (CPS) is a government agency that is meant to protect children from abuse, neglect and/or maltreatment. The purpose of CPS is to ensure that the child is placed in a safe environment. There are a considerable amount of cases, where CPS workers were not protecting the child by not giving them an adequately safe environment to live in. Once, a child is reported of being abused or neglected, an investigation is conducted to determine whether there is substantial harm being placed on the child. Approximately, “forty percent of the three million child abuse and neglect complaints made annually to CPS … are “screened out” and never [thoroughly] investigated” (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/18/ap-us-child-abuse_n_6346966.html). Not all cases investigated are declared harmful for the child, thus him or her must remain in his or her primitive home.

CPS workers ought to do an adequate amount of work to keep the child in a safe and protected environment. CPS workers are missing vital signs throughout their investigations, which may possibly prevent fatalities amongst children due to abuse and neglect. This is why it is extremely important to keep track of how many fatalities occur which are based on abuse and neglect, which CPS workers determined there is not a substantial amount of harm that can endanger the child and put him or her in an unsafe environment, and learn from these experiences to attempt to prevent these
