The first Toyota was manufactured in Japan in 1966. The vehicle was introduced to the United States in 1968. Toyota worked hard to overcome the perception that Japanese vehicles were shoddy. The first Corolla sold for less than $2,000. The company proved they could make an inexpensive car without sacrificing quality.
