Imagine if you had to always live with your power out. You would have to be done with whatever you are doing when the sun goes down. That is what it would feel like if Thomas Edison did not create the light bulb.
Thomas Edison is the creator of many inventions and he holds over 1,000 patents for his inventions. Not only has Thomas Edison created the first light bulb, he created the printer, a record player, electric lamp, and also greatly improved the telephone. Thomas’s first invention launched his career when he made an improved stock ticker at 22 years old. Thomas was born on February 11, 1847. He was the last of seven children. His mother, an accomplished school teacher, was one of Thomas’s major influences. Early in Thomas’s life he had scarlet fever. This made him have hearing problems and nearly deft as an adult. Thomas edison worked for newspaper companies from when he was 12 years old to when he was 20 years old. In 1869 Thomas got a job at The Gold and Stock Telegraph Company. Once he improved the stock ticker, the company was so impressed that they paid him 40,000 when he was only 22 years old. $40,000 in 1869, is about $688,000 today! …show more content…

In that same year Edison married his wife Mary Stillwell. Also in that same year Thomas fell into some financial issues. Thomas wanted to build a machine shop but he did not have enough money. With the help of his dad, Thomas was able to build his laboratory and hire several small machinist. He would make products and sell them to the highest bidder, which was usually the industry leader, the Western Union Telegraph Company. After Thomas got some more money he made a bigger industrial building. He made his own Illuminating Company where he made the first lightbulb.
