The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, takes place in “Out- With” as Bruno calls it. This was Brunos way of pronouncing Auschwitz, the place where Bruno was forced to call home after his family moved out of his enormous house in Berlin when his father was given a promotion. Bruno wasn’t very sure what his father s job was. All he knew was that it must have been important since Hitler himself had come to his home for dinner. Of course a week after that dinner Bruno and his family moved into a three story house in Poland that made Bruno repulsive. This was because the new house was boring. It no places for Buno to explore and nobody for him to play with .The only thing that caught Brunos eye at his new house was a “farm” that he could see from outside his window. Inside this farm Bruno could see thousands of “farmers” that all seemed to be wearing the same striped pajamas. Curiosity and boredom took over and one day Bruno found himself on his first adventure in what seemed like ages.

Just as Bruno was about to call his exploring off for the day and return home, he noticed something, a boy! This was great for Bruno, especially since there was nobody his age at Out-With. Shmuel wasn't exactly what Bruno had expected, he never wanted to play and looked silly with his pajamas on all the time and a funny haircut. Still, Bruno visited Shmuel almost everyday for over a year within this time Bruno notices that Shmuel grew paler and thinner each day. Meanwhile Bruno's mother slowly became aware of her beloved husbands job, which is the Commandant of Auschwitz. I This news came to Bruno's mother slowly but when the truth fully came out did she took hit. His mother became depressed and stayed in her room for most of the da...

3) Gretel: Gretel is Brunos older sister and plays a role of an dynamic character in this novel. After the move to Poland Bruno can notice changes in his sister. For example Gretel spends most of her time learning about her great nation and changing her room from full of dolls to a model German citizen room. This new room includes posters of German soldiers all over her room and a huge map that she uses to trace the war and all the victories for Germany. During the story she slowly grows more impatient with Bruno and his childish ways and constantly tries to mature for her age.
