Stephen Joel Trachtenberg creates a convincing argument in his article “Education Is Not A Luxury,” saying that the increase of additional school hours will be of a great benefit to students, which will result in the overall enhancement of the American educational school system. Because this article is about improving the result of American education, Trachtenberg’s target audiences are governors, educators, and even students. In the article, Trachtenberg’s persuasive rhetoric in which he tries to persuade his audiences to increase school time in order to let there be an atmosphere which causes students to focus on studying. ...merican educational system if no steps are taken to create improvement. The idea of the value of American education behind this article is meaningful and considerable. Also, the reformation can create new problems such as lack of government budget and downward spiraling student attitudes. In order to convince more people about why educators should lengthen school time, Trachtenberg needs to include more specific details and respond with credible proof and sources to the significant objections that are presented in his argument.
