Joseph Heller’s, Catch-22, and Tim O’Brien’s, The Things They Carried, both show two similar experiences of burdens throughout wartime duty and combat. With the power of story telling, both stories lace in loss, love, death and emotional strain which play key factors to the stories. Without hardships and sacrifice, these stories lack emotional depth and moral. Thus, war creates emotional and physical burdens on soldiers in duty.
