Recommended: Second amendment and the success of our nation

The second amendment affects us today by limiting our rights to posses a gun. Civilians cannot expect to use their household weapons for militia duty, although they can keep them if there is a criminal attack for for hunting ect. In 2008 the judiciary treated the second amendment almost as a dead letter. The Supreme Court invalidated a federal law that forbade nearly all civilians possessing handguns in the nation's capital. Majority rules that the language and history of the Second Amendment showed that it protects a private right for individuals to have arms for their own defense.
