The Rogerian model is a diplomatic mode of argumentation that can be used in writing to present a problem and offer a solution to a specific issue. When reading an essay that follows the Rogerian outline, it is easier to understand what the writer is trying to persuade and argue, because it states the problem and shows why the issue needs to be addressed. Then it proposes the opponent's position and validates grants whatever validity the writer finds in the opposition's perspective. For example, the writer may acknowledge certain situations in which the opponent's position can be acceptable. The Rogerian outline could be helpful and used to enhance an argument. Many people see Susanna Rowson’s book, “Charlotte Temple”, as a comment on the need for youth to listen to their elders. However, the theme is far more complicated than this as it shows that the advice itself is flawed. As the characters travel from England to America, the inherent problems of the advice appears. It is here that Montraville father’s advice which is assuming similar experiences leads to lifelong misery. Charlotte the most obvious proof that ignoring your parents advice leads to trouble suffer far greater consequences because of the reversibility of that very same advice. Even the readers experience the dangers of advice as the author cautions the mothers reading the novel that their views and consequently advice are not enough because of the inherent problem of advice not being law. Montraville’s, Charlotte’s, and reader’s stories show that it is not enough to follow parental advice if the advice is misguided, founded in untrue expectations, creating more trouble and misery for the youths.
The movie begins with the family and parenting styles concept of child development by introducing the audience to the main character James and his parents. James lives in a two-parent household with his authoritative parents who are providing him with warmth, love, and encouragement (Levine & Munsch, pp. 521-522). This concept of parenting styles is shown as the movie begins and James is seen spending time with his parents. Then suddenly, James’ world changes and he is abandoned as a result of his parents being killed. This causes James to become orphaned and forced to live with his authoritarian aunts, Spiker and Sponge. Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge are very controlling towards James and expect him to obey their rules without allowing him to express his feelings. This authoritarian behavior is seen throughout the movie. Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge are also uninvolved, neglectful, and abusive, using verbal and physical punishment on James when they feel it’s necessary, which is also seen throughout the movie (Levine & Munsch, p. 522). These behaviors cause James to develop lower self-esteem, show less intellectual curiosity, and feel lonely and afraid, which are typical outcomes of an authoritarian parenting approach (Levine & Munsch, pp. 521-523). Parents and their parenting style play an important role in the development of their child. In fact, many child experts suggest that parenting style can affect a child’s social, cognitive, and psychological development which influence not just their childhood years, but it will also extend throughout their adult life. This is because a child’s development takes place through a number of stimuli, interaction, and exchanges that surround him or her. And since parents are generally a fixed presence in a child’s life, they will likely have a significant part on the child’s positive or negative development (Gur 25).
Growing up, two group of people, parents, and grandparents, took the time and the energy to raise me. Both of them had different approaches when raising me. These approaches were different parenting styles. According to Baumrind, parenting style was the “[capturing] normal variations in parents’ attempts to control and socialize their children” (Darling, 1999). To put it simply, parenting style goal was to lecture, influence, and discipline a child. In general, there are four parenting styles with their own specific benefits and disadvantages. Furthermore, parenting style, granted the dynamic of the family was understood, can be identified in families.
Throughout the semester, I have learned extensively about the process of an argument through the use of evidence, supporting details, and a clear stance on various pressing issue’s in today’s world. When I signed up for this class for the second semester, I never thought that I would be challenged to come up with compelling arguments for not only my side, but the opposing side as well. One of the most difficult things that I found was coming to a middle ground through the style of the Rogerian argument, but most of all, I learned that to opposing sides can find a solution without a fight breaking out. I learned that through one of the most basic argument forms it becomes so much more complex than simply arguing a point, you have to do the research

It is someone who is there for you from the start, guiding you to the right path of knowledge and teaching you how to stay on the right path independently. A parent does not need to have any biological associations to the child in order to be a parent to them. A parent must have certain characteristics to be rightfully called a parent. For many years psychologists have defined ways to correctly support a child to adulthood for parents all over the world. Some people conclude their practice of parenting their children after the child reaches the age of 18, and some have the duty as a lifelong job. As years pass so do generations and media changes very constantly and plays a factor in how children act and respond to certain stimuli. There was a study done in 2009 and people in Poughkeepsie had answered a poll that revealed overall every age group finds it harder to raise a child in today’s day and age than it had been in previous generations, but the older the parent is, the longer the generation gap would be and that factors in the difficulty of understanding how media works with a child’s psychological set up. Parenting styles have great effects on children, especially on their behaviors and emotions. If there is a negative parenting style with one parent it is likely that we would see the same style in the second parent (Ritchie and Buchanan, 2011), in Chinese American children we see that parenting styles and pressure have a huge effect on emotions (Yuwen and Chen, 2013). We also see the how the three different types of parenting styles –authoritative, authoritarian and permissive, affects emotional regulation (Jabeen, Anis-ul-Haque and Riaz, 2013).
With over three hundred million Americans and over six billion people worldwide parenting skills are essential to maintain a healthy society. Parenting involves many aspects and requires many skills. It is a time to nurture, instruct, and correct to develop fundamental skills children will need to be mature, responsible, and contributing adults to a society. There are four commonly identified parenting styles; authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved parenting. Of the four parenting styles, two remain on opposite ends of the parenting spectrum. These two styles; authoritarian, and permissive both have deleterious results that are often visible throughout different developmental stages, such as rebellious behavior. As well each style has its own advantages such as; acceptance by peers with commonality. Child rearing for most parents is an evolving set of skills. It could be said that, with any style of parenting, there is no explicit set of rules for every situation, and what works for one child may not be effective for another.

Parenting. It’s the process of taking care of your own children until they are old enough to take care of themselves, and is arguably the most difficult job one could have. In the play, The Fantasticks, two fathers with a knack for gardening sing the song, “Plant a Radish,” in which they compare the unpredictability of raising kids to the certainty of planting vegetables. The Fathers had created an elaborate scheme to make their children fall in love, yet their children’s unpredictable behavior forced the plan to backfire, leaving the fathers to question the task of raising kids. Similarly, I have witnessed my own parents struggle with the uncertainty of parenting and how it affects more than just the direct parent-child relationship.
