Self disclosure is the process of intentionally revealing unknown information about yourself that you consider significant. There are three benefits of self disclosure which include Reciprocity, Catharsis, and Self Clarification. Reciprocity is when one’s honesty in making the other feel comfortable or even obligated to match. Catharsis is like getting something out of your chest. Lastly, self-clarification is clarifying our thoughts, attitudes, and/or feelings. Self disclosure is also going into depth or breadth depending on the context. This connects to Catharsis, Depth is Self- Disclosure, and Self-Clarification because of the way the communicator is getting something out of their mind, and didn’t clarify on their thoughts, attitudes, and/or feelings. Another reason why full disclosure isn’t a good source to use on a first date is because of self- clarification within the communicator. When you use full disclosure, you mention random topics causing different feelings and attitudes to come out of us without clarifications. For example, in the film when Everett mentions ‘trust’ as one of his icebreakers, he doesn’t clarify his feelings on why it is. This causes Brinn to start crying which then makes Everitt give her hug. He was saying what came to his mind randomly and what he thought would be best for her to know about him, but was doing this without giving an explanation. Meaning, he was specifying why he has just said what he had mentioned. This
