Rawls Reflection Today, many single mothers are dependent on the welfare system, and low wage employment as a source of earnings to help support their families. It is very hard for some of these mothers to survive and make ends meet within this critical element. Some of these mothers do not only depend on assistance from welfare to feed their families, and the income that they receive from the government is usually not enough to support their basic needs and their family’s needs. Some mothers also have sick children and Medicaid that they receive does not cover all their health expenses.

People negatively stereotype social workers as people who just sit in an office all day doing paperwork; take people 's children away; and are incredibly underpaid by the government, but this is not the case. Social workers are responsible for assisting families, individuals, and groups of people to cope with problems that they may be facing and they contribute to improving their lives. When it came to the scenario, I feel that the social worker would want to help the single mother alleviate some of the stress that she may be facing. She needs health insurance because her child must have their asthma treatments and other medications because his life depends on it and it is at risk if he does not have any of the treatments. Without insurance, the mother has a hard time affording any of the medications that her child means. There were many differences when it came to my role as the stockholder and my role as a social worker. The stockholder was mostly worried about the company losing money which meant he would lose money and that was unacceptable. The stockholder also felt that the mother did not deserve the insurance because she was not a reliable worker. The social worker was very empathetic; she was all about helping the single mother any way they could.
