Bullying is a serious matter, not only in the United States but internationally. Different solutions have been implemented to help prevent bullying, but what exactly is bullying and why is it dangerous? Bullying is when “one person uses his or her greater strength, physical, or psychological; to get another less powerful person to do something they don’t want to do.”(Kiva: Bullying Prevention Scale) Bullying can be suffering, incurable, and life changing. It can be suffering because the victim could develop a fear of attending school and embarrassment in front of their peers. It can be incurable if they have no social support system to turn to so they may have suicidal thoughts. Lastly, it can be life changing because it can lead to depression and insecurities feeling like they aren’t good enough for anything or even someone. Various forms of bullying include: physical, verbal, cyber, sexual, prejudicial, and relational. Cyberbullying is one of the major growing issues in our younger generation today. The ironic part of cyberbullying is that “cyberbullies often say things that they do not have the courage to say face to face because technology makes them feel anonymous, insulated, and detached from the situation.”( 6 types of bullying).
Sexual bullying “consists of repeated, harmful, and humiliating action that target a person sexually, examples include sexual name calling, crude comments, vulgar gestures, uninviting touching, sexual propositioning, and pornographic materials” (6 types of bullying). Lastly prejudicial bullying is when a teen bullies other teens for their race, religion, or sexual orientation. This type of bullying can lead to hate crimes and should be reported
