If an individual was to conduct a survey or even Google “The Worst Pain Ever Experienced by a Human Being,” I am sure the results would range from childbirth to the passing of a kidney stone. According to Antwan Johnson, the worse pain he recently experienced was heartbreak from a bad break up with his ex-girlfriend.

Those suffering from depression experience anxiety as well. They become increasingly susceptible to physical ailments because the immune system is compromised during depressive disorder (Beaton). Within the United States alone, more than fifteen (15) million people suffer from depression; and approximately ten percent (10%) of the eighteen (18) year-old and older population develop depressive disorders ("Depression statistics," 2010). Those reporting depression overwhelmingly agree that work, home life and relationships are adversely affected as a result of this disorder. Psychotherapy and drug therapy are basically the two types of treatment (Robbins, 1993). It is believed Antwan will be greatly benefited from psychotherapy treatment; hence it will be specifically discussed. During psychotherapy, the therapist and patient work together using various counseling techniques (Robbins, 1993). Successful therapy may be reached through behavioral techniques while psychoanalysis creates a better response from others. During psychotherapy, Antwan will converse about his thoughts and hopefully the cause of his “loss” will be identified. The therapist and Antwan will recognize actions that led to this “loss” providing insight into any self-anger Antwan may have experienced, which Freud believes exists with such a loss leading to a depressive episode (Robbins, 1993).
