If an individual was to conduct a survey or even Google “The Worst Pain Ever Experienced by a Human Being,” I am sure the results would range from childbirth to the passing of a kidney stone. According to Antwan Johnson, the worse pain he recently experienced was heartbreak from a bad break up with his ex-girlfriend.
Detailed Symptom Picture Antwan Johnson, also known by his peers as A.J., is a twenty-six (26) year old college graduate and currently pursuing a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy at a local H.B.C.U. in Montgomery, Alabama. According to the few people that knew A.J. he was ambitious, determined and motivated. Above all, A.J. had this go-getter mentality that allowed him to lose his essence of living; instead he just

Those suffering from depression experience anxiety as well. They become increasingly susceptible to physical ailments because the immune system is compromised during depressive disorder (Beaton). Within the United States alone, more than fifteen (15) million people suffer from depression; and approximately ten percent (10%) of the eighteen (18) year-old and older population develop depressive disorders ("Depression statistics," 2010). Psychotherapy and drug therapy are basically the two types of treatment (Robbins, 1993). It is believed Antwan will be greatly benefited from psychotherapy treatment; hence it will be specifically discussed. During psychotherapy, the therapist and patient work together using various counseling techniques (Robbins, 1993). Successful therapy may be reached through behavioral techniques while psychoanalysis creates a better response from others. During psychotherapy, Antwan will converse about his thoughts and hopefully the cause of his “loss” will be identified. The therapist and Antwan will recognize actions that led to this “loss” providing insight into any self-anger Antwan may have experienced, which Freud believes exists with such a loss leading to a depressive episode (Robbins, 1993). Because psychotherapy can be slow-moving, behavioral techniques should also be
Depression shifts ones focus off the necessity to belong in life onto the thinking one never can.
While growing up I had many ideas of what professional career I wanted to obtain, although until recent years, occupational therapy was not even a thought. It was not until my grandmother had a stroke that I even knew what occupational therapy was or entailed. I watched my grandmother participate in therapy leading her to learn how to tie her shoes again, and the things I thought were so simple as to dress herself again. It was during that time as high school graduation was approaching that I realized I wanted to be apart of that. I wanted to have a role helping others learn and exceed as she did because I seen how much joy it brought her. This experience opened my eye to the things we so often take for granted, that some people lose the ability of doing or lack the ability of doing. Throughout her journey of facing and overcoming these problems, it led me to a yearning to pursue this
For as long as she could remember, Sara had was set on being a teacher. Following those childhood aspirations, she went into college to become a teacher. Unfortunately, Sara had to acknowledge the fact that a teacher’s salary may not support her and her big plans. Growing up just south of Detroit meant that Sara was able to see all of the struggles that would be difficult to overcome. A teacher just would not cut it. So, Sara buckled down and signed up for a nursing program. Sara has since completed the required education but plans on furthering her knowledge. Currently, the young nurse is pursuing certification in wound care. Some days, Sara thinks of going after the occupation of a nurse practitioner or CRNA. “I don’t think that I will,” Sara mentioned with a sigh, “Maybe after Clayton graduates. I just can’t afford to make school my top priority when I have him. I enjoy the work I do
...the strong, weak, and smart. We can not fathom the amount of destruction depression creates, and when it leaves, it leaves a permanent mark, that can never be healed in full. Many clients I have talked to and communicated with have greatly shown improvement, but none, not even one! Has shown full recovery, its like braking a pristine glass vase into a million pieces, and after you attempt to glue everything back together, it will never be the same .
Choosing a career is a very important aspect to people’s lives. One goes to college, usually around the age of eighteen, and by the time they leave they are expected to have decided on the career that they will have for the rest of their lives. Being a psychology and interpersonal communication major, I have always had an interest on relationships between individuals given certain stimuli presented to them. I want to have the ability to touch people’s lives by helping them understand themselves and why they behave the way in which they behave. Relationships are such an important aspect to the process of human growth, and they impact each and every one of us. Due to this assessment of myself, I have decided to go to college to pursue my goals of being a clinical social worker.
Depression is an illness within itself that affects the “whole body”. (Staywell,1998) The body, feelings, thoughts, and behavior are all immensely altered when someone is depressed. It is not a sign of personal weakness, or a condition that can be wished or willed away. For some people depression is just temporary, but for others it can last for weeks, months and even years.
Depression is a serious mental health illness which affects an individuals’ mind, body and mood. For my honors assignment, I chose the TED talk “The secret to desire in a long-term relationship” by couple’s therapist Esther Perel. As I read down the list through my options for the assignment write up, this one caught my attention right away. I feel as though this article specifically lured me in because I could relate to it the most, taking that I have been in a long-term relationship for seven years. I felt that choosing to write about this TED talk would be beneficial to me in hearing what Esther Perel had to say on the topic that may affect someone just like me, and to also connect to all that we have learned in FSHD 237 this semester.
...ard work, and perseverance. The list of successful individuals with depression extends on and on and there are probably many more people who had amazing accomplishments who were never diagnosed that displayed symptoms of depression. And as Friedrich Nietzsche, a successful German philosopher diagnosed with depression, once said, “to live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.”

William Shakespeare is a famous writer who wrote many plays. Most people would concur he is the greatest writer of all time. His plays fall under the categories of histories, comedies, and tragedies. Troilus and Cressida is a tragedy, but many would say it is not because Troilus does not die. Instead a noble fighter named Hector dies. Betrayal, love, and love causing betrayal is expressed in Troilus and Cressida when Cressida betrays Troilus by not railing against the Greeks, Troilus falling in love with Cressida, and in a way, Paris betraying the Trojans because he would not give up Helen which made the Trojans continue fighting.
Salty tears of frustration streamed down my checks into the steaming mineral water that surrounded me. No one noticed; no one cared. I was just another stranger in the crowd drifting along in Glenwood Pool. There was only one difference; I was alone. Everyone else in the pool seemed to have someone, and everywhere I looked couples were kissing! If someone had been surveying the whole thing they would have found happiness in every corner ... then they would have seen me; sulking in my corner of the pool with fat, old, wrinkly, bald men swimming past me repeatedly.
Depression is also known to impair psychosocial development and academic success (Lindsey 2009). With all of these factors put together, it can be tough for any student with depression to carry on with their normal day-to-day activities.... ... middle of paper ... ...http://jedfoundation.org/documents/DepressionandAlcohol.pdf.

The physical aspects of pain can vary greatly from a sharp prick with a shot to the excruciating pain of childbirth.Emotional pain has to be the most horrid, in my opinion, of all types of pain. It feels as if your insides are being wrenched out. When my girlfriend and I broke up, I felt as if she had ripped my heart out and I was standing there watching while she stomped on it.
