Freedom of speech has been a controversial issue throughout the world. Our ability to say whatever we want is very important to us as individuals and communities. Although freedom of speech and expression may sometimes be offensive to other people, it is still everyone’s right to express his/her opinion under the American constitution which states that “congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press”. Although this amendment gave people the right express thier opinions, it still rests in one’s own hands as how far they will go to exercise that right of freedom of speech.
The United States was unjustified in its involvement in the Vietnam War because, in my opinion, the U.S had little justification to sacrifice thousands of innocent youths for political ideals. It was the longest and most unpopular war in which the United States fought. Many Americans on the home front protested their government’s involvement in the war. Many young Americans felt that there was no reason to fight for a cause they did not believe in, especially in such a strange foreign country. The civil rights movement also strongly influenced many of the war protests. This was because such a large percentage of minority soldiers sent over to fight were being unfairly treated. The African American soldiers were being ordered to the frontlines more often than white soldiers were.
Freedom of Speech means that everyone is entitled to having an opinion , and they are able to share this opinion in any way that they would like to - online on Facebook, in public on a street corner, or even just in a face-to-face conversation with someone else. There are many different kinds of people, all with their own opinions, beliefs, and ideas and in the United states, citizens are fortunate enough to be able to share these thoughts with anybody they want to, without fear of major repercussions.
“Going through high school I remember talking with my friends about the Vietnam War. I had the friends who were gung-ho for the war, and I had friends who, like myself, felt the Vietnam War was unnecessary and not worth fighting for. I remember back in 1967 hearing about the protestors at the Lincoln memorial. Over 100 thousand protestors were there, and I remember thinking how great it was that so many people had the courage to march up to leaders in D.C. and voice their frustration. Then there was my father who said how all those protestors were un-American. I guess I could not blame him, he fought in World War II and served his country with honor, taking great pride in that. To me though, war is not always the answer. That’s where the difference was between people at the time, you either were fully supportive of American involvement in Vietnam, or you were opposed to it, I do not remember much in between. As for me, I could not support the Vietnam War” (Lalonde). The protests of the Vietnam War were opportunities for disgruntled Americans against the war to make their voices known, speak out against the injustice of the draft, while also helping to contribute to the end of the war and being a beneficial spark to an end of the draft.
In the United States of America, the right to freedom of speech is protected constitutionally. Privacy is a concept which is protected only through laws, and is thus superseded by the constitutional freedom of speech in a court of law (Determann 1-2). The private companies which manufacture smartphones and operate social networks as well as the individuals who use these products and services retain this right, which places their actions over the interests of maintaining the privacy of others who use the technologies. Additionally, while users may look to social media companies such as Facebook to blame for invasions of privacy, it is often other users who are responsible for the breach. Most people are offended by the content uploaded by others, whether it is a picture or a revealing status update, which is not within the control of the company (Determann 2). Social media companies are responsible for enforcing and upholding their terms of service and ensuring that the rights of their users are not being infringed. They cannot violate these rights in the name of protecting
Because the justice system isn’t always in favor of the innocent, people have started to stand up for their rights. Whether it is by protesting or even showing their support on social media, this nation’s youth is standing up to these injustices and demanding their rights back. They are a community standing together against injustice. Social media has paved a way that allows today’s youth to connect and collaborate in order to achieve this. They come together through art, music, literature, protests, etc. to illustrate their support. Social media allows the entire world to see what is really happening. Instead of being fed information by the media, they are able to hear and listen to the people who have been silenced. They are able to share experiences with one another, which results in the community available today

In today’s society, free speech is a right guaranteed to every American in the U.S., but not all countries give their citizens that right. As computer and internet technology has grown, so too has the number of violations against free speech around the world. Some of these include censorship of the press by the government, punishment for speaking against the government, and punishment for voicing unpopular opinions. The computer and internet technology of the world is often used in these suppressions of free speech.
Social media has been very popular due to different social networking sites, blog sites and video sites including podcasts. Social media sites run by a particular group or person cannot avoid to be biased though and we all know this. There are some who pays a particular domain or site to say or do their bidding and that is normal part of the social media. With the use of social media, we can gather a lot of information as well considering that this information comes from different group of people based on their backgrounds and point of view as well as their cultural differences.
Many of our youth turn to social media to vent about any and every issue that is going on and it is not always positive. Dr. Nakagawa described in her article “The Use of Social Media in Teaching Race” how social media might open people to detest discourse or perspectives of White matchless quality. Numerous individuals fail to be racially educated meaning that they lack having the education and knowledge to talk about race, deconstruct and challenge occurrences of bigotry, and interface and work with others to deliver disparities in connection to race. The internet gives numerous chances to utilizing social/new media to produce content and points of view that are generally lost from more extensive societal exchanges about
This source supplies my paper with more evidence of how freedom of speech is in a dangerous place. American has always stood by freedom of speech, and to see how social media platforms try to manipulate and take off as the choose to increase slight bias is unpleasant. The article establishes a worry to the fellow readers that hold freedom of speech so high and that it is at risk. The article manages to explain why freedom of speech is in danger, and why there should be no limits to free speech.
In my opinion, social media is a way to bring the world closer and an assertion of consumer choice can be used for promoting issues that matter. A human rights activist can make an unknown story reach hundreds of thousands of people by the ‘simple click of a button’.
In our world, social media is one of the most important forms of media within our society. People use it to keep in contact with old friends and family, and see the latest news and events. In a conflict perspective’s point of view, social media has enforced and has increased inequality between all people on social feeds, and a somewhat of a power struggle between all people.
America is famous about freedom. Freedom of speech is one of the most important thing for not only American people, but also all people in the world. However, free speech is different from each country. Vietnam is limited about freedom of speech. In another word, this nation does not have free speech for people. This is an opposite side of America. Therefore, there are significant differences between America and Vietnam according to freedom of speech on the internet, in the classroom, and at workplace.
.Looking at this society today we can see that. Now we can connect with our loved ones that live halfway across the world, through the many innovations of new technology. After reading “Facebook and free speech” one can tell how influential technology really is.”Facebook, Google and twitter have more power over who can speak and what can be said all across the globe than any king or president or supreme court justice”(Henn 5) .The fact that Facebook can have more control over what can be ...
