Be Mindful: Make Good Choices “There be some boneheaded moves but as long as you learn one more lesson than mistake made you're good” Hilton Cole, Norfolk State University ‘15 One of the disadvantages of advantages in college is that you do not have anyone around to tell you what to do. Every decision you make has to be on your own. Every judgement made must be the right one. The right decision is the one that you feel is the best for you. Granted, not every decision you make will produce a great result. Not every choice will be easy to make. But that comes with being an adult. Poor choices will be made that you may regret, but as long as you learn from them that are all that matters. You may want to stay in bed instead of going to class. You may want to go out drinking with your friends on the weekend instead of studying for that test you have on Monday. Decisions like these and many more, will arise throughout your tenure in college. They will range from very easy to extremely difficult. The most effective way to handle them is to remember a few things that you always keep in the back of your mind (should be done in order): 1. Would this help/hurt my success?: Everyone wants to sleep in and not go to class, but those who want to be great, they ask themselves, “does sleeping in help or hurt my success?” Those who want that success, they get out of bed and start the day. It is the same with every other decision. Ask yourself if watching TV instead of studying will help or hurt, or if eating that cheeseburger instead of going to the gym will help or hurt.
