The Impact of the Internet in America
The prevalence of the internet has had a tremendous impact on American society in terms of physical health and emotional well-being. In the following pages, I will attempt to briefly highlight some of the positive and negative impacts I feel today’s internet technology has had on people living in The United States of America.
Public internet access can be found in most libraries or internet cafes. Internet Service Providers offer access to individuals in their homes as well as schools and businesses. To begin with, I utilized a popular website, Ask Jeeves http://ask.com, to help locate a definition of what exactly is the internet. “The Internet, sometimes called simply ‘The Net,’ is a worldwide system of computer networks - a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get information from any other computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers). The Internet is a public, cooperative, and self-sustaining facility accessible to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. The most widely used part of the Internet is the World Wide Web (often abbreviated ‘WWW’ or called ‘the Web’). Using the Web, you have access to millions of pages of information.”[1]
The key phrase, “access to millions of pages of information,”1 placing health and wellness information literally at the fingertips of average Americans, has empowered people to take charge of their own health and well-being. “More than 6 million people turn to the Internet every day for health information.”[2] The enormous amount of information available on the internet to the public extends to a variety of topics including: diagnosis and condition information, treatment i...

Mormons have gone through a lot, have broken apart and come together several times while the different branches of Mormonism continue to grow and new branches may still form in the futures. One thing is known that the ‘new religion’ is strong and its believers continue to have faith. To outsides certain practices do seem questionable, yet one question remains, if it is part of Christianity or their own ‘new religion.’
Phobias have been in existence for many years. As humans we fear things that are life threatening and unnatural. Someone who has an irrational fear of something is considered a phobia, which is an extreme illogical fear or dislike of something. Fear is a very common emotion which distinguishes from phobia regarding the severe distress someone with a phobia goes through. Fear is a rationalized and instinctive emotion that comes in response to a threatening situation. The reaction caused by fear can be managed. Phobias can hinder someone’s life. I’ve decided to write my research paper on the issue of identity theft. Identity theft has occurred all throughout history in various ways and forms. Today, it is one of the fastest growing crimes occurring all over the world. Data suggests that identity theft accounts for roughly $50 billion stolen each year from citizens and businesses in the U.S. I believe that more attention should be targeted towards identity theft because of the detrimental effects it can have on a single victim and on our nation’s economy. Topics I will discuss include statistics about the crime, laws that protect the victims of the crimes, and what we are doing to prevent future attacks from happening.

In 1820, at age fourteen, Joseph Smith Jr. was confronted with a decision to join a church. Being a man of no formal education or religious organization, he went to a grove of trees to pray and ask God which church was the right one to join. Smith said God and Jesus appeared to him as “Two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description.” (Book of Mormon: Joseph Smith History Ch. 1 Verse 17) They told him that none of the churches had it right, and he should not join any of them.
This shows that identity theft is a growing problem that needs to be addressed (VanderPal). The United States Department of Justice, a branch of the United States government, defines identity theft as “terms used to refer to all types of crime in which someone wrongfully obtains and uses another person's personal data in some way that involves fraud or deception, typically for economic gain.” Identitytheft.info, a website edited by Rob Douglas, an identity theft expert, states, “…every individual or business is vulnerable to attack when it comes to personal or corporate information, products and services.” They also state, “As the methods used to perform identity theft expand, so do the types of accounts and services being stolen by identity thieves” (“Identity Theft Statistics”).
