If you haven't been living in your uncle's basement for 25 years with food being brought to you periodically, you probably know that lately, the majority of the best selling movies today have been movie adaptions from books. Popular movies of this type include the Hunger Games series, the Divergent series, American Sniper, and the Hobbit. However, you can't talk about those movies without discussing the difference between the book and movie. That's why in today's essay, The Hobbit book and movie trilogy will be scrutinized, and discussed. This writing piece will look at the unique chracteristics of both pieces of media, while also looking at the similarities between the two. The first characteristic that makes these movies unique is how the movies flow. The movies tend to go into greater detail about events, and also gives multiple perspectives from different characters. A common habit of these films is designating a moment from the book to a certain party, such as a character or group, then let the designated party live out the moment, then switch to another scene in which another party is chosen, and so on. Another characteristic of these films is that, due to the fact that this version of the story is a movie trilogy, all three films have a climax near the ending of each one. It would be peculiar to divide a full story into three movies, and not have a climax in any of the films except the last because the story had its climax and aftermath near the end. A good movie always has a climax, so as a result, the writers to needed to add a climax to the ending of each movie. A final originality of these films is the new characters. To add more flavor to the film, the writers chose to insert a love story between Fili and an elf that never appeared in the book, while also adding more characters and side stories to the main plot, such the king's assistant, and his unhealthy want for capital. The first noticeable difference is the pacing of this story. Instead of having the elaborate story storytelling elements that the movie trilogy has, the paper form of the story doesn't mess around. This story describes what Bilbo experiences and sees, and only that. It doesn't go into a lot of detail, and it only tells the reader what's necessary. Another endowment of this story is how it interjects little things from the narrator here and there. One of things that is admired by readers of this story is how the author seems to tell the story as if he's a storyteller, throwing out comments and little pieces of information out there so that his children may agree, disagree, understand, or even laugh. One last distinction to make note of is of how less descriptive the book is than the movie. First off, it would be best to note that there is no lack of descriptiveness in the book at all. The book is just not as descriptive as the movies, because the movies prefer to add some cinematic elements for detail, such as panoramic viewpoints and rotations around the scene, to let the viewer get a clearer view of the scene.
