Who is a hero? According to Merriam Webster dictionary, a hero is a person admired for achievements and noble qualities. With that being said, Fidel Castro should not be recorded as a hero. Ironically, the Cuban Revolution was a civil war that took place in Cuba, led by Fidel Castro which fought against the government army under the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Castro garnered support from the Cuban people with promises of democracy and freedom to Cuba. However, after defeating Batista’s army, Castro granted himself absolute power, transforming Cuba into a communist state. Cuban’s then lost their freedom; the loss of fundamental freedom, the right to speak one’s mind, right to read what one chooses, right to travel and the right to criticise
