The Help was written by Kathryn Stockett and directed by Tate Taylor. It is based in Jackson, Mississippi during the civil rights era in the 1960’s. The Help is a movie about the life of the African American maids during the 1960’s. Most African American women raised the wealthy white children with little regard to their own families. Considering the era and how negative the concept of it is, the movie was actually pretty comical, and “safe”. The movie didn't focus enough on the actual reality of the Civil Right movement. The extent of the civil rights movement that it actually covered was the law that was passed forcing the white house holds to install new restrooms outside of their homes for their housekeepers. Both Aibileen and Minny are maids for two of Skeeter's friends, Elizabeth Leefolt who is played by Ahna O’Reilly and Hilly Holbrook who is played by Bryce Dallas Howard. Hilly Holbrook eventually fires Minny because Minny refused to use the restroom outside in a storm and pretended to use the inside one. Minny eventually goes to work for Celia Foote who is played by Jessica Chastain. Skeeter gets the idea of making this book and confronts Minny and Aibileen about it. They declined any participation that Skeeter may have wanted from them. They were in fear for their safety and knew that if people found out that the information was coming from them that something bad would happen to themselves or their families. Fast forward through the movie and Aibileen and Minny both decide it is time to take a stand for themselves. They manage to rally up enough women that after convincing, agreed to talk to Skeeter and tell their stories as well. In other movies about civil rights there are a lot more violent acts that seem more realistic than nothing happening when a book gets released exposing people's bad information. Skeeter’s novel becomes a bestseller and everyone around town is reading it. There are certain details in the book that catches people's attention and they realize that the book is indeed about Jackson. The wealthy white ladies will never admit that the book character is them because of embarrassing details that it detains so ultimately no one finds out, but in the real civil rights era there would have been massive punishment than nothing
