In the article, “The Good, the Bad and the Funny”, authors Oliver Conolly and Bashshar Haydar lays out the argument that ethics of humor is Amoralist. To provide a balanced argument, they present arguments from the perspective of the Amoralist and the ethicist. The article focuses on what makes a joke racist and why racist/sexist jokes are considered funnier. Is it because of the jokester’s perspective on racism/sexism or does the humor lie in our interpretation of such jokes. Jokes were divided into forms and types to gain a better understanding of telling a sexist joke and implementing sexism in a joke. What I agree with is the point because whether a joke is funny or not, individuals are entitled to one of two choices. There is a choice to find a joke funny and to find a joke not funny. The lack of humor in a joke is based on our perception of what is considered funny. This is because shows like Saturday Night Lives, the Daily show and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert have addressed issues from political incorrectness, the tragic presidential selection and controversial issues like Black Lives Matter. The similarities between these shows are that they use humor to pass these messages to the masses. One would argue that humor as a form of entertainment, gives the public more unbiased information than local news. These shows bridge the line between humor and ethics while providing information. Amoralist would provide a simple answer to the argument stating individual should decide for themselves on what is funny and what is not.
