Many events occurred before 1865 that helped develop the United States become what it is today. It is the country I’ve lived in my entire life and learning how it came together brings a different perspective how far our country has come. The five most significance historic events in American history in my opinion happens to be: the founding of the first thirteen colonies, the American Revolution, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, The Civil War, and Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. These specific events set the foundation for the United States to always strive to make our country better. Firstly, the founding of the first thirteen colonies is obviously one of the most important historic events because it was start of what makes up the total 50 states. Jamestown, Virginia was the first colony to be founded. Tensions came about between the colonies and the colonial government which led to the American Revolutionary War. The American Revolution was the war of independence from Great Britain. Britain was four times larger in population, had an experienced army, and was the world’s top manufacturer. In April of 1775 was the start of the first shots that initiated the war (Brands pg130). A British commander name General Thomas Gage was ordered to make an arrest to several patriot leaders that were in Lexington. General Gage thought sending his troops during the night to surprise attack the Americans was a good strategy except the Americans were ready and waiting for them.
