Globalization and Movies Globalization is the spread of different political, economic and cultural trends to different parts of the world. (Stanford) American media has spread rapidly throughout the world, and at the forefront of the media blitz is film. Movies are an unbelievably important escape for many people across the world. Films can take a viewer to another place or time and since the beginning of society, performances have been a staple of cultural. Films show a perception of reality, for better or for worse.

The overall appeal of the cinema to the masses was particularly evident during the interwar era. Audiences worldwide wanted to watch the variety of films, particularly American produced films, and they always went back. The visibly attractive and glamorous Hollywood movies often depicted the success of the underdog over unjust authority. Values of cash over culture were often a theme in the early American films and societies with restricted social mobility, such as those in Europe, could dream of such a triumph. The working class and unemployed could fantasise about wealth, fame and freedom which America as a country was portrayed as offering.

Since everyone can relate to a movie, it’s safe to say that movies can be pretty influential. Some areas where films have made an influence are storytelling, entertainment, and culture. Movies are a great version of storytelling because they make stories more relatable and memorable. Storytelling is one of the most powerful capabilities humans possess. It can be used to motivate, dominate, and influence people.

The thought of being world-renowned is a major draw to this profession even if it is unlikely. When directing films, the idea one might have to interact with famous actors and people in the film business allows people to dream of meeting someone they have worshiped on their own televisions. These ideas, even if they are slim, are a major pull towards directing films. In fact, “employment in these occupations is expected to grow 11 percent during the 2006-16 decade” (“Careers.org” 4).

Film has clearly developed greatly since it was created. Some of the great things about film are that it creates jobs, allows people to express themselves through many aspects such as acting, directing, editing, etc, and lastly, it began a worldwide passion for a whole new art. In Hollywood, approximately 210,000 people have packed into one small city because it is the best place to begin a career in film. People have devoted their lives to film, so greatly that they refuse to retire. Directing is always a very important aspect of film, and as the years have progressed, we’ve seen more and more directors take on the challenge of the film industry.

It is everywhere and all over people’s faces, for example Episode VII has been promoted in the past year all over the world. The movie tickets in many theaters have sold out because people feel obligated to see it. On the other hand, films in the 1890’s did not have the type of promotion Star Wars has received, but a lot of people went to see the short silent films. Due to a few reasons: for entertainment, escape reality, popular culture, and going out to the movie theater to watch a film was a social norm at the time. When it came to merchandise, Disney was doing it for years, but merchandise did not make a huge impact until Star Wars.

Hollywood is constantly altering the plot of novels to appeal to certain crowds. Sometimes these alterations can be beneficial to the storyline while other times they can detract from it. Not too long ago, on May 1, 2013, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, was made into a movie for the second time. The novel, being one of America’s most famous works, set high standards for the movie. This film featuring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, turned out to be very popular.

They consist of hopeless lovers, dirty politicians, twins separated at birth, villains, angry relatives, prince charmings’, overly convenient coincidences, and... ... middle of paper ... ...tarted to heighten their budget and production levels during the late 1990s, Bollywood started to gain pressure to increase the quality of their films. Movies shot overseas, away from their audience, were most popular in box offices. So as time goes on, Bollywood film crews are traveling more and more. Supposedly it is important to the audience that they receive a new and exhilarating experience from the films they see. They want to see places and things that aren't easily accessible by their standards.

The industry became widely accepted as a form of entertainment. It attracted numerous artists, entrepreneurs, politicians, and scientists (Cook, 2004). However, the film industry has constantly been dependent on factors beyond its control. The dependency raises important questions, which include: What are the effects of technology on the filmmaking industry? How has industrialization affected the creation of narrative film?

With the popularity of film culture experiencing a drastic increase, a large amount of what happens on screen is mirrored in our society. Movies can evoke thoughts and emotions that shape the average man’s ideals, sometimes even stirring up propaganda that pressures governments to create new laws. Across the globe watching movies started as an asylum for the working class, but slowly the ideas being portrayed onscreen have evolved resulting in movie going to become almost religious. Movies have the ability to leave us in awe as a result of their ability to give us a glimpse of a dream, however unrealistic. I myself am a huge fan of the film industry.
