INTRODUCTION AND CONTEXT STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Most children and their parents tend to matriculate through life’s social and emotional stages without any form of interruption. However, for some children and their educational providers, this development is essential for the cognitive development of the child. Discipline is necessary to attain cognitive development. It is also paramount in the safety and physical well being of the student, in addition to his/her social, emotional cognitive development. This research will attempt to identify corporal punishment and its effectiveness in correcting a student’s behavior in the middle school settings.

...ng increasingly more and more violent. Students today increasingly are suffering from more depression, anxiety and vast amounts of emotional issues as a result of the use of corporal punishment. The ineffectiveness of the corporal punishment has stifled the growth of our society socially. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of corporal punishment as corrective to student behavior among middle school students. It is hoped that the results will help foster alternative and more effective means of correction of inappropriate behavior for the student learner.

Research Question

The research question that will be considered in this study is the following: Is corporal punishment effective in correcting student behavior? The researcher believes that the use of corporal punishment is ineffective in the correction of inappropriate student behavior.
