The passage, The Dinner Party is obviously trying to send a message to all people that men and women are equal. I can conclude that this is the running theme because the passage was written by a women. The author includes characters that have very strong opinions about what they think. The Dinner Party was created to get all people thinking about how they treat people of the opposite gender. A fantastic example of this in the story is when the young girl and a colonel argue about the jumping-on-a-chair-at-the-sight-of-a-mouse era. I think both sides have a point because usually the men take care of things like that such as insects, rodents, or even snakes and women are on a chair screaming at the sight. Though not all women may be scared of this. Some may have that extra ounce of nerve control that most men have, but lets face it some men may not have that last ounce of nerve control though. …show more content…

And while a man may feel like it , he has that ounce more of nerve control than a woman has. And that last ounce is what counts."(Gardener 3) He may have a point, but he isn't totally correct. In his words I can conclude that he is trying to say that men and women aren't equal in some instances, but I'd have to disagree with him. Some women may be prepared to take care of the situation and some men may be standing on the chair screaming. Knowing society today this would be a heated argument because not everybody believes all men and women are equal. Though a main principle of our Constitution is that all people should be treated equally. The author is using mostly men in the story to prove her point which is women should be treated a little bit better than they are right now and that they should be respected for either not wanting to catch the snake or being brave enough to go after the snake and catch
