All creatures deserve life free from fear and pain. Animal abuse can be intentional harm or failure to take care of an animal. Either way, the animal can suffer tremendously. Animal abuse is a problem that many don't pay attention to. This is because people are not being informed of the kind of abuse that pets go through. People need to be made aware of what some animals are being put through. If people are made aware, they could help protect animals.
People need to learn the connection between animal abuse and domestic violence. If a human abuses animals,then the person is likely to commit crimes against humans too. Recently, a video of alleged animal abuse on set of ‘A Dog's Purpose’ sparked a boycott of the movie. In the approximate one minute clip, a German Shepard stood between its handler and a churning water pool in preparation to shoot a scene. The dog appeared frightened, leaning away from the turbulent water, but eventually the dog was shoved into the water but even then wouldn't comply, as he desperately struggled. Actor Josh Gad who voices the dog said he was “shaken and sad to see any animal put in a situation against its will” ( Andrews, 2). Regardless the video sparked anger. This was a rare occurence of people becoming aware of what happens to animals not just behind the scenes, but in everyday life as well.
People who intend to hurt animals are likely to be involved with other crimes. Organized cruelty includes dog fighting, cock fighting and other forms of organized animal cruelty go along with other crimes. Animal fighting is a contest in which people urge two or more animals to fight for the purpose of human entertainment. In some instances, one of the animals may be a bait animal used for the ostensible purpose of sport or training. These matches can be fatal. These are people who intentionally hurt animals because they enjoy hurting things, or because it makes them feel powerful. Many of these people would hurt other people if they could get away with it. They just choose to hurt animals because animals are more helpless than people. Most people who abuse animals don't do it on purpose. They hurt animals because they don't think about or realize what they are doing. Many of these people don't know that what they are doing is cruel.
We need to come together to stop animal abuse.Call your local animal welfare agency immediately if you see anything suspicious. Signs of abuse or neglect can include hiding,walking with their head down and tail between their legs, or cringing when people approach. Some Visible signs include injuries or illnesses that linger untreated, poor living conditions, bones being visible through the skin, and extremely poor grooming.
