All creatures deserve life free from fear and pain. Animal abuse can be intentional harm or failure to take care of an animal. Either way, the animal can suffer tremendously. Animal abuse is a problem that many don't pay attention to. This is because people are not being informed of the kind of abuse that pets go through. People need to be made aware of what some animals are being put through. If people are made aware, they could help protect animals.

Recently, a video of alleged animal abuse on set of ‘A Dog's Purpose’ sparked a boycott of the movie. In the approximate one minute clip, a German Shepard stood between its handler and a churning water pool in preparation to shoot a scene. The dog appeared frightened, leaning away from the turbulent water, but eventually the dog was shoved into the water but even then wouldn't comply, as he desperately struggled. Actor Josh Gad who voices the dog said he was “shaken and sad to see any animal put in a situation against its will” ( Andrews, 2). Regardless the video sparked anger. This was a rare occurence of people becoming aware of what happens to animals not just behind the scenes, but in everyday life as well.
People who intend to hurt animals are likely to be involved with other crimes. Organized cruelty includes dog fighting, cock fighting and other forms of organized animal cruelty go along with other crimes. Animal fighting is a contest in which people urge two or more animals to fight for the purpose of human entertainment. These are people who intentionally hurt animals because they enjoy hurting things, or because it makes them feel powerful. Many of these people would hurt other people if they could get away with it. They just choose to hurt animals because animals are more helpless than people. Most people who abuse animals don't do it on purpose. They hurt animals because they don't think about or realize what they are doing. Many of these people don't know that what they are doing is cruel.
We need to come together to stop animal abuse.Call your local animal welfare agency immediately if you see anything suspicious. Signs of abuse or neglect can include hiding,walking with their head down and tail between their legs, or cringing when people approach. This trend is bad for today’s society for reasons including death row for the animals, an increase in cost for animal shelters, and a decrease in space for the animals to be safe. Most commonly the victims who suffer are dogs, as seen in the picture. Reported in 2007 by the media 64.5% cases involved dogs, 18% involved cats, and 25% involved other animals. Pit bulls are especially the most common dogs abused. Livestock are victims as well, HSUS investigations into slaughterhouses and cattle auctions have revealed, animal abuse cases in the factory farm industry. The picture shown above depicts an innocent dog. Both his legs and mouth were duck taped, which is what catches many people’s attention, since duck taping an animal’s body parts is not acceptable. Much emotion can be found in this picture and can cause one to feel hatred towards those people who commit these atrocious actions. One may also feel sympathy, especially those who own pets. Inhumanity is also well represented in this photograph. It is sad to believe that a person would do this to an animal. Sadly, animal abuse charges may not be enough where this happened. There are many states like Pennsylvania whose laws are not strict enough regarding animal abuse. This will be a growing dispute with years to come if society does not do anything about it.
Animal abuse is described generally as any act or omission that causes unnecessary or unreasonable harm to an animal. Animal abuse are vary and can lead to different forms. These may include, tormenting or beating an animal, executing an animal in a harsh way, binding or transporting an animal in a way that is improper for its welfare, neglecting to give fitting living conditions, neglecting to give proper or satisfactory sustenance or water for an animal and neglecting to give suitable treatment to infection or injury (Animal Cruelty, n.d.). In general, for an act to be considered as animal cruelty, it must be a non-accidental, socially unacceptable, enacted on a vertebrate animal, causing pain, suffering and distress or death. Animal cruelty is just one reason why animal abuse is bad. Part of the problem is people who hurt animals don’t do it on purpose they just do not know how to take care of the animals (Mason 6). Other times people enjoy engaging in watching two animals fight. Some owners test them to see if they are good fighting dogs and if they are not they kill their dogs This one owner killed his dogs that would not fight by hanging,drowning and slamming the dogs (Dohrmann). Animals that are abused tend to be aggressive or traumatized and these animals can lash out at any human at any given time. This is a danger to people, especially little children. Children should be educated from their early ages so that our next generation will treat animals kindly and stop animal cruelty. Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
The abuse that animals endure at human hands is heartbreaking, sickening, and infuriating. Animals are just as delicate as humans, so why not abuse us too? Animal lives should be just important as ours. No animals should be killed or abused for testing, entertaining, clothing, or hoarding. Every year, millions of animals are being killed and torture for testing.
Animal cruelty is acts of violence or neglect perpetrated against animals. There are diverse types of animal abuse going on in the world today. One type of animal abuse is animal factory farms. Most people do not tend to think that eating meat such as beef, pork, and chicken has anything to do with animal abuse, when in reality it does. In factory farms where they keep the animals before killing them, the animals have to live in a world full of abuse.
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
I will discuss each one in more detail. Many people who abuse animals do not realize that they are actually hurting animals, this is known as unintentional. When some people try to discipline their pets, they use tactics that they think are acceptable, when in reality, this is probably not the best way. People also abuse animals due to lack of attention, such as forgetting to feed and water the animals for a number of days. A family may take the animals with them when they leave the house, and forget to leave a window down with the animal inside.
