In ethics values form the basis for understanding. Values that are needed in all law enforcement employees are honesty, kindness, hard work, empathy, integrity, compassion, bravery, and justice. All of these values will help police officers to make the right decisions in their day to day work. Values and ethics are placed as the most important part of a police officer’s work from the very first days of their police academy ("Mission, Values, & Law Enforcement Code of Ethics", 2014). As mentioned earlier they first must agree to uphold the oath of office.
Mission statements are meant to inspire and convey direction that the organization intends to stay on.”Through a mission statement, policies and procedures, a proper management style, and direction, criminal justice administrators attempt to ensure that the organization maintains its overall goals of crime treatment and suppression, and that it works amicably with other organizations and people” (Peak, p. 25). Mission statements are a written declaration that reflects the core purpose behind who the organization is and what they stand for. It encompasses the important elements and keeps people within the organization on the same page, defining what is important, the goals, and excludes the unimportant. Each Police department across the nation serves the same basic duties which include (but not limited to); keeping the peace, protect and serve, deter criminal acts, enforcing the law, crime prevention, all while adhering to their ethical code of honor. While they may be similar in duties and responsibilities, their mission statements differ slightly.
They all have pledged an oath to do so. The nation expects soldiers to be shining examples of the America’s best values. Soldiers have rules and principles that define the way to use force against their enemies. The Ar... ... middle of paper ... ...and, the Brigade will lead the effort, ensure unity of effort, and support the Battalions’ initiatives. The Brigade will “lead by walking around” to demonstrate its commitment to set and maintain an ethical command system.
My personal code of ethics act as a foundation for distinguishing good from bad deeds and assists me to determine the rightful emotions and actions to engage in. My family, friends, and the society play a major part in the development of my personal principles and values, including excellence, integrity, responsibility, ambition, respecting family, accountability, and determination. The values enable me to associate well with my family, colleagues, friends, and the society. This paper describes my personal code of ethics in detail and compares it to the United Nation’s (UN) Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the NASWA Code of Ethics.
All this promotes honorable service to our nation. The Army professional sets the example and it’s what the American people expect from the soldiers that serve our nation. We must continue to serve with honor to promote trust with the people and to uphold our oath that we swore to defend the constitution of the United States. We should demonstrate character and pride with how we serve with integrity and with ethics in every day aspects. What is the definition of ethics and morals?
A leader with True North demonstrates a high degree of integrity and walks his/her talk. A leader with a True North is an integrated leader with fine balance between personal, family, work, and community life. On a similar note, a leader with True North aligns and nourishes their mind, body, and soul. To be an authentic leader one must discover their True North and the purpose of leadership. Leadership decides the success or failure of organizations.
