The effectiveness of the PPE program will be monitored by the inspection of the equipment and the auditing of the procedures periodically to review, update, evaluate and access the effectiveness of the PPE program (CCOHS, 2016).
Changes in the legislative requirement, new information about the properties of the hazards, and changes in the process itself are circumstances that can invalidate parts of a written program, or render it obsolete (Nims, 1999).
Internal audits will be performed annually, while external audits will be performed every three years for the general review of the program. Critical areas of concern that required immediate action will be reviewed frequently (CCOHS, 2016). When changes in the work process occurs, failure of the PPE reported or introduction of a new PPE, the program will be reviewed.
Auditing of the PPE program can be performed in the following ways:
 Auditing of the individual components of the PPE program.
 Performing review of the procedures following changes in work processes.
