Grendel is a very complicated character some people believe that he is a monster and others believe that he is a human with a couple of personal problems. All of these confusions are because Grendel as a character changes so much throughout the story . For example, he kills humans to eat them, however he feels bad after he is done, but can not stop himself when he is doing it. To start of Grendel's mother affects grendel's change a lot in this story mainly because she raised him. As a result, she raised him just how she wanted and made him just how she wants him even if he didn't want to be that person. Since she made him how she wanted he doesn't appreciate her he feels “she was pitiful, foul, her smile a jogged white tear in the” ( grendel 50) Grendel is describing his mother . …show more content…

He can now do whatever he wants with her to pay back with everything she has done to him. This has affected the way Grendel thinks of his mother in many different aspects. Although it seems that Grendel dislikes his mother he once had a beautiful relationship with her. Grendel is just disgusted with his mother and doesn't want anything to do with her. its sad to think of it from the mother's point of view because she cannot talk and communicate with him and tell him how she's feeling .
