One important influential party during the civil rights movement was The Black Panther Party. Which the party was originally named self-defense. “ This party was extremely different only because they acted as a defensive measure and imposed strict discipline on its members”(“The Black Panther Party”). This party ended with many members imprisoned, exiled or even dead before the party was dissolved. Black Panthers had many middle-class values, this led to indifference towards the disadvantage youth of African Americans.

The organization had philosophical views. Many members of the group had views on the political standpoint believed they were on a ten-point program. The program had called for an immediate end to police brutally. Which we know didn't happen but back to the black panther .This party was part of something much than themselves, they played a major role in a larger Black Power Movement. The movement wanted “ emphasized black pride, community control, and unification for civil rights.” (The Black Panther Party) The group were often portrayed as a gang, even though the leader saw his group as a political party. His goal was to help get more African American Americans elected into the political office. Black Panthers organized and created many community social programs. Big project they did was free breakfast programs for school children and for 13 free health clinics.” They did this for about 20,000 schools.” ( The black Panther: Revolutionaries, Free Breakfast Pioneers- Andrea Collier) The message the Black panthers were giving off spread to other Black community in the United States. Many programs spread the word to other community and cities.

Violence and Controversies was written all over the name “Black Panther.’’ Which caused them to have a bad repetition and persona. The founder of the party Huey Newton allegedly killed an Oakland police officer John Frey. “He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 1968 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.’’( Federal Bureau of Investigation) Later, the charge was applied and court reversed the conviction and Huey was
