Effective Teams Large companies such as Auto Industries use teams to help build their company. Teams have several individuals working together to come up with innovated ideas to help benefit the company as a whole. The managers that are watching the challenges and progression of the team are crucial. The teams are individuals that have different experiences in the work field that come together to build creative proposals to help grow the company. There are four different types of teams. These teams are problem-solving teams, self-managed work teams, cross-functional teams, and virtual teams. Problem-solving teams work together to help find methods to improve the work environment or have suggestions to increase employee’s morale. Self-managed work teams organize the responsibilities of the employee’s such as assigning tasks to individuals, scheduling conflicts, and evaluate employee performances. Cross-functional teams are individuals whom all have experience in the same work field. The individuals come together as a team to incorporate their thoughts, designs, and new ideas to accomplish what the company needs to improve or create. Virtual teams are individuals that work together, but only by technology such as the internet, emails, or web cam. There are several steps of creating team effectiveness. The steps include context, composition, work design, and process. The steps of context are to help with the performance of the team. The four contextual factors are adequate resources, effective leadership and structure, climate of trust, and performance evaluation and reward system. Adequate resource needs information, proper equipment, staffing, encouragement, and administrative assistance. Leadership and structure is important, because the team needs to know what each individual is responsible for including what they can do to help. Climate of trust is highly important, because the team members need to know they can trust each other with out taking advantage of them. The performance evaluation and reward system is important to know how each member of the team is doing overall. The reward system is given to the team as a group, and does not exclude anyone. ‘Work as a team, grow as a team, succeed as a team.’ Composition is to help the managers know how the teams should be staffed. The seven categories would include abilities of members, personality, allocating roles, diversity, and size of teams, member flexibility, and member preferences.
