“Thanksgiving day is a jewel, to set the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day and leave out the gratitude” stated E.P Powell. It is true because the date, the day off, the food are not what matter on this beautiful date, but the blessings are. A lot of people take this day for granted, they unable to distinguish the importance of this holiday and what we do wit it. I do and that is why I’m grateful for three blessings. First of all, I’m grateful for my family. My family is benevolent. Always supports me whenever I need them, and they are always there waiting to help me just in case. They agree with my choice, help me to be better at making choices and be myself, right my wrongs and love me unconditionally.

Even though it was many years ago, I vividly remember my first Thanksgiving dinner. I was a little kid, no older than the age of seven. I flew in that day from Ann Arbor, Michigan, where we had attended a special ceremony honoring my uncle. As a result of the hectic flight schedule, I did not have the opportunity to eat very much that day, and I was eagerly anticipating the Thanksgiving dinner. We arrived at my grandparent’s house around six thirty in the evening. As soon as I entered the house, the tremendous aroma of all the foods filled the air and my taste buds began salivating in anticipation for the meal. Normally at family meals the food came out in courses, appetizers followed by the entrée. However, this time all the food came out at once. I immediately reached for the turkey and proceeded to take a huge slab of meat for my plate. Coupled with gravy, the turkey seemed irresistible. It was a big piece of dark meat, roasted to perfection. The skin had some sort of spice on it. I don’t recall the name of the spice, but I can tell you that the spice was sharp. Yes sharp, I think that’s the best way to describe it. After my first bite I found myself reaching for the nearest cup of water. However, after I got used to the spice, I began to realize its incredible taste. In less than ten minutes, I proceeded to wolf down this massive chunk of turkey.
I stepped out of the chilly November air and into the warmth of my home. The first snowfall of the year had hit early in the morning, and the soft, powdery snow provided entertainment for hours. As I laid my furry mittens and warm hat on the bench to dry, I was immediately greeted with the rich scent of sweet apple pie, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and the twenty-pound turkey my mother was preparing for our Thanksgiving feast.
During the retreat James was grateful to have such wonderful people today Thanksgiving was near but he has not cared about what he was grateful about until this retreat. It does not matter if he gets a B in anything, grades do not matter that much in life. There are many things in life that I am thankful for and I am going to talk about it before I jump to the conclusion of why I am thankful. I will only be explaining two things that I am thankful for. I am thankful for all the wonderful things in life and for all the things that I have.
When the word “family” is discussed, most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people's lives, they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it’s money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support.
Even though times get tough and family life can get stressful at times I know that I will always be welcome in my family. Each of the different experiences that I have do different things to make me feel more comfortable with my family. The road trips and driving in the car make me feel more comfortable around my family it lets me learn new things about them and get to know them better. Doing the same things as them make it much easier to relate to my family and if you can relate to someone then it makes you feel more comfortable and connected to them. The everyday things in life assure me that I have a place in my family and it shows me where that place is. I already feel very comfortable around my family but I know that as I continue living the course of my life I know that I will be able to feel even more comforted around them.
My family is a love I have. My immediate family consists of six people: my dad, mom, and three sisters and me. However, I love these people on a different scale than I love books. Whether it is a hand to guide, a tissue to wipe away tears, or simply a smile to make my day better I can count on people to love me and so, henceforth, I love them in return. I love my parents for many reasons. They are always there for me when I need help or am need of anything.
I don’t know where I’d be without my family. We’ve been through thick, and thin. I’m very glad that I have them for moral support, and can depend on them for advice. They’ve taught me almost everything I know about life, whether it’d be household chores, manners, morals, cooking, etc. I’m pleased to have a very caring family that would do anything for me. I feel safe and secure with them. They provide me with the basic necessities such as food, water, and a roof over my head. I would consider all of the things they provide me with as luxuries, because not everyone has a comfortable place to reside in, or food to eat. If I didn’t have these basic necessities, then it would be another thing I would have to stress about in life.
