Texas Hold’em “Learning without thought is labor lost; thought without learning is perilous,” Confucius. How do people learn? A common answer is: from their mistakes. What happens when you are in a situation that has risk in it? How do you cope with the fact that you can make the wrong choice and mess up? In Delphi, we have the privilege of being able to mess up and learn from your mistakes. Texas hold’em is a game that can teach you to judge certain situations through risk and reward situations. When you play hold’em, you have to think fast and you can’t show an ounce of emotion because your opponents are trying to “read you,” which means they are trying to find out if you have good cards or bad cards and even what your next move is going to be. In real life, there are a lot of careers that require critical thinking and Texas hold’em is a good way to become good at it. One of the careers that require critical thinking is a lawyer. Pretend you are defending a client, but the other lawyer is telling the judge things that upset you and affect your client.
