Even till this day no one truly knows the origins of Black Jack. Though most agree it originated in a French casino around the 1700’s. Should also be noted that Spanish and Roman had similar games but the most prevalent theory is that the French created the modern black jack game we all know today. Vingt-et-Un refers to the French word for 21 though the games rules might have changed the concept remains the same player to get closets to 21 wins.
As the French Empire expands its grasp into the Americas pilgrims bring with them vingt-et-un. These games spread the neighboring colonies and so forth. Vingt-et-un rules have differences from those of modern or contemporary Blackjack. For instincts in this form of Blackjack, a dealer was the only one permitted to double. Betting round was done between each of the playing cards dealt.
Nevada around the 1930’s was hit hard by Great Depression its once prosperous mining operations were in decline. Nevada was in finical ruins the Great Silver State was forced to seek other ways to replenish its state income. March 1931, Nevada's state legislature responded to the increased of people moving out of the state by taking the drastic measure of legalizing gambling. One of the games casinos hoped people would be attracted to was “21”. Casinos hoping to gain the upper hand on other casinos some casinos then enticed is clients with a special bet: A hand featuring either of the black jacks plus the Ace of Spades would pay 10/1 odds on the lucky player's bet. Casinos would later discontinued the special bet never the less the name Blackjack stayed.
