Ted Bundy was born November 24, 1946 in Burlington Vermont and was executed January 24, 1989 in Florida state prison at 43 years of age. Bundy's murders were believed to begin in 1974 when he was 28 years old. Bundy claimed to have murdered 30 people but also confessed to 36 murders and hinted at many more. The known murders that occurred were 12 women in 1974, 5 women in 1975, and 3 women in 1978. (1) According to psychologists, Bundy said that he'd had a pretty normal upbringing. He normally went to church with his mother every Sunday. Despite evident abuse from Ted’s grandfather Ted only recalls good memories. From all of these social situations Bundy is known for his special language. Ted listened to the radio and tried to talk like the actors he heard. Ted was observant, he would also imitate boys at school. Barbara Grossman, a reporter who interviewed Ted for multiple occasions stated: "Sometimes I come away from an interview with Ted thinking I've got great stuff. But then the more you listen to what he says, the more you wonder what he's saying." Many experts have described their interactions with Ted further prove Ted’s ability to be a different person to different people. It was frustrating to interviewers who would ask Ted questions and then the next minute he would contradict whatever he just stated to someone else. Ted deflected, hedged, and although he sounded completely sincere he was not to be trusted. These unique language skills of his helped his shyness. These skills also helped him become one of the most terrifying predators of his time. Ted Bundy was handsome and articulate. He did not fit the depiction of a killer. Ted had a special way of seducing women and making them trust him. After gaining their trust he would mutilate, rape, and murdered more than 15 women in Florida and the Northeast. When his car was searched, the forensics team found hairs that matched a murder victims. A 23 year old named Caryn Campbell was murdered and had been found on February 18, 1976 in Aspen, Colorado. Caryn was a nurse born in Michigan who happened to be on vacation with her boyfriend in Colorado. After skiing for the whole day, Caryn and her boyfriend returned to their inn. Caryn left the fireside to retrieve a magazine. She never returned and her boyfriend began to look for her. Caryn’s boyfriend could not find her and then he decided to call the police. A month later her body was discovered naked in the snow close to the inn they were staying in. Forensic evidence showed that Caryn had been beaten and raped. Bundy confessed to murdering her before he was executed. A year after the reckless driving arrest a woman who had barely escaped with her life from one of Ted’s attacks, was able to identify him. Ted was then convicted of attempted kidnapping and was transported to Colorado to for the murder trial. Ted was at the Aspen courthouse studying in the library when he suddenly jumped out of a window and escaped. He was recaptured and then escaped again on December 30, 1977. He sawed a hole in the ceiling of his cell, after this he ran away to Florida and went into hiding.
