Teaching Philosophy I believe the main purpose of teaching any subject is to encourage students to think critically and appreciate knowledge. Thinking critically is a skill students, no matter where their lives lead them, will need. A teacher should be dedicated to the content they are teaching and should love what they are doing. The fact that students are learning the subject is not enough; a teacher also has an obligation to foster an enjoyment of learning in their students and to show them how they can apply it to their own lives. Teachers should be able to show students that what they are learning in the classroom is relevant to their own lives.
Whereas when you teach discipline, you are helping them learn and develop your expectations and students will acquire this information in a more respectful manner. Like Gordon stated, Students want to feel a sense of community and by respecting students and teaching them how you wish them to act in class more effectively then me telling them this is how things are in my classroom. I believe that for the most part, students are good, but can often make bad choices. Although some students are naturally disruptive, they normally have a reason behind why are they are acting in a disruptive manner. I believe that if students are actively engaged in the learning process and students are being challenged and interested in the topic, they will behave and will not be disruptive.
For these students to achieve teachers have an important role to play in ensuring that their academic potential is utilized. The most basic way for teachers to begin teaching this students is first by identifying the students and their behaviors and give them the attention they require. it is likely that students with this disorder often are distressed, uneasy and frightened for no apparent reason. In an inclusive class of such students, teachers should consider following these simple remedies to help such students and avoid leaving them out in the syllabus. Ensure that you keep the class rules simple and clear.
("Student lead discussion in classroom"). Having students lead will help by having all students think of the correct answer and not just be listening to the teacher because they assume the answer is correct. You may think students will give false information, but each student will be required to know information on the topic they teach.Cornell also went on to say that this method encourages students to ask questions to the teacher instead of the teacher asking questions to the students("Student lead discussion in classroom"). Students will get to learn things as they teach just like a student, but are getting to be more involved.
One way to support my students in the classroom is to be familiar with their learning styles. Not all students learn the same way in a classroom. By knowing and getting familiar with the students learning styles, I would know how I will deliver my lessons and lectures that will accommodate each student learning styles. In class, we discussed about the VAKT (Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic, and Tactile) Learning Modalities that filters how students learn best and how they can connect new information to old information (Greczi, 2014). By implementing different lessons that accommodate each students preferred learning styles, I bel... ... middle of paper ... ...e amount of learning by helping one another through cooperative learning.
Teachers make sure they do this by making time for their students, which means having personal meetings with them. When teachers use their own time to help students, it further shows how supportive teachers are. When students know they can depend on a teacher, the students then feel more comfortable in their learning situation and will be more likely succeed. To further emphasize this support of teachers to students, many teachers use a method of ‘Praise, Question, Polish’; which helps to critique students on a comfortable basis. By using this method, students also learn to become more independent when teachers show them, gradually, that students will learn to write better with the ease of criticism.
I believe teachers should serve as role models and be the center of a classroom. In order to maintain that students stay on task and are all on the same page, the teacher needs to serve as a guide and direct the students. I do not believe that students learn best in a textbook based setting, but that textbooks are important when referencing material. I believe all students learn differently and look for new ideas or ways to teach lessons and concepts, so that my students can learn as effectively as possible. I also believe that a teacher teaches much more than the subject.
I believe that it is important to students to teach them how to learn such as test taking skills to reinforce success, not failure. I think we as teachers should make it relevant and give them the knowledge that will help them survive and thrive in the world outside of the education setting. I believe that teachers should work with others and integrate the curriculum across the domains. Students must have access to the use of technology, as this is the world the lay before them. Let students teach students, they love to be in charge even if it just for a little while.
They are willing to learn new games when they are enjoying their company, but when a bossy bully comes into the mix, the learning and fun is over. Worldview I have heard the saying “He who has the most ... ... middle of paper ... ...the students present to them versus why the student is the person they are. If we can understand more about a student’s home life, social life, and learning abilities, a teacher we can then target the student with things that interest them when presenting a lesson. After learning what we can about our students, we will then have to use that information to create a learning environment conducive to learning. When making decisions on how to instruct, teachers will have to take all information learned about the students in consideration.
If a teacher has one on one meeting with his or her students, the teacher manifests a clear commitment to each student and shows that he or she invests in their academic development. A good teacher is one who is able to share certain life experiences with students to help them understand the teacher as a person. Teachers should not present themselves as perfect and omniscient. Being able to share jokes or maybe a funny scenario will keep the classroom interesting and keep the atmosphere more
