The Truth about Tanning Tanning is a world-wide phenomenon that individuals take part in every day. People tan for numerous reasons such as confidence reasons, health reasons, and just for relaxation and enjoyment. Though, many of us are told the negative aspects about tanning, truth be told, there are numerous positives to tanning.
Indoor tanning for instance, can control the amount of UV exposure to the individual, and can give the user a “base tan”. A base tan can help eliminate the risk of sunburn when exposed to other UV light. Having a base tan is very important especially when the individual plans to be outside for long periods of time or if the individual plans on traveling to another area where the sun may produce stronger rays, which can damage skin if it becomes burned. …show more content…

Tanning helps these skin conditions because of the UV rays that the tanning beds and sunlight give off. The ultraviolet B light that tanning beds give off can slow the growth of skin cells and it turns off negative skin forming cells that create skin irritations. This slows the irritation, especially psoriasis and sometimes can even clear large areas. It also even helps individuals who suffer from seasonal affective disorder. This disorder can leave individuals feeling depressed during the winter months from lack of sunlight. Tanning can help give the individuals the sunlight exposure that they need and help boost their mood levels during the dark, cold, winter months. Also by tanning, especially during the winter months, people have more confidence because they believe that tan skin is attractive. This helps them with other insecurities they may be feeling about themselves. Confidence is key.
