“We are not given a good life or a bad life. We are given a life. It is up to us to make it good or bad.” A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens has had a great influence on my maturing mind. Reading a tale of two cities has helped me understand that life is full of good and bad people that you will meet but It's up to us who we want to be like. It's also shown me that we have to move on from our past and it does not characterize who we are forever. Lastly, It's displayed to me that it's up to us to redeem ourselves. The characters in A Tale of Two Cities has helped me understand that the people we surround ourselves with, willingness to learn from our pasts and self-redemption, are very important to helping me grow to be a better person. In the Tale of Two Cities clearly display the comparison between good and bad, it's clearly displayed by Lucie and Madame Defarge. In life you will always meet people, they will be positive and great or awful. We are entitled to choosing or friends. A Tale of Two Cities shows me that surrounding myself with kind people like Lucie will help me be more positive and kind, Instead of being with people like Madame. …show more content…

We all have been through hard times whether it is emotionally economically or physically but we can let those downfalls represent who we are.Madame Defarge lost all her family when she was young and she grew up without a family, she although choose to let her anger and vengeance to make her a horrible and heartless person. Lucie Manette, on the other hand, grew up without a parent but see Lucie as this bright beautiful person charters that despite going through a rough childhood did not let it define who she was.
