Synthesis Essay College graduates nowadays are finding it difficult to secure jobs, and the unemployment rate among these recent graduates is reaching a record high. This issue has caused parents and high school students alike to question if the costs associated with a college education are really worth it. A college education is worth its cost because it opens up opportunities for higher wages even in jobs that do not require a degree, and it provides students with vital skills that they can utilize in life after college. In his Huffington Post article, “What’s a Liberal Arts Education Good For,” Michael Roth claims, “A liberal education remains a resource years after graduation because it helps us to address problems and potential in our lives with passion, commitment, and a sense of possibility” (Source B). Such skills encouraged in liberal arts institutions are fundamental to the learning process of colleges in general. These colleges seek to create an environment that constantly challenges students to think critically and use problem-solving techniques to confront and dismantle issues when they arise. Graduates are, therefore, prepared to confront obstacles in life after college because of the analytical skills that they had the chance to strengthen in a college environment. Higher education also allows students to realize their vast potential and challenges them to continue to set goals after graduation. By affording students the chance to continually test their potentials, colleges are creating a population of determined graduates that are ready to join the workforce and better their communities through the creation of new innovations and solutions to problems that plague society.
