Even without the use of firearms and other high tech weapons we have today, back in medieval times they had a wide variety of weapons including swords,ranged weapons,blunted weapons, spears and many more. Back then war was very different, and most of it included head to head combat, so that is why the weapons, even though are very different, still all had a close purpose. The most known and most convenient weapon is the sword. The sword is mostly used for thrusting and slashing. Swords consist of a blade and a hilt, mostly with two edges sometimes one. Unlike the the bow and the spear, the sword is a pure military weapon. They were typically being held with a shield or a buckler, Also according to medieval texts, in the absence of a shield or a buckler, the left hand where they would be located would instead be used for grabbing or grappling your opponent. Another popular sword was the longsword. It didn't come around until the nearly the end of the dark ages but it was still a very known weapon. They were much larger than the others, with the hilt being up to 10 to 15 inches and the blade itself being about a meter long. When it comes to the fighting style of it it is not a slashing type of weapon. Its style consist of quick, thrusting a cutting, and it can be a hard style to learn. There are also a lot of visual variations of these, because of designs and additional forging techniques. Second known to the sword are the clubs. Clubs have a heavy head on the end of the handle, they are intended for powerful blows. There are all different types of clubs, including maces, hammers, flails etc. Some of them have a dull edge but are more swift, and others have spikes on the end, but they all serve the same purpose.
