The social and environmental aspects of sustainability are inherently linked. It’s very important to minimize and avoid the impact of the fashion industry on the environment. There are a lot of individuals working within fast fashion retailers, championing more sustainable practices, amongst smaller business pioneers. Fast fashion insiders have a tough and difficult challenge, because the commercial drivers of the businesses that work within are in conflict with the reducing environment impact.(Lejeune, 2016). Since 2013, H&M has been operating a massive sorting and recycling facility in Wolfen which is a town outside of Berlin. The plant takes in 14 metric tons per day of unwanted clothes gathered from H&M’s recycling bins throughout Europe, then sorts them based on 350 different criteria to determine whether they can be sold, reused, or fully recycled. H&M’s sustainable business expert is to create a closed loop for textiles where clothes that are no longer wanted can be turned into new and improved clothes (Christian, 2016).
H&M provides and offers a lot of different sustainable fashion products such as pieces and tops. H&M want to lead an example by making fashion sustainable and sustainability fashionable. H&M is aiming to only use recycled or other sustainably sourced materials in all of their products by 2030.
