Chapter 2, Time: The ABC Daily To-Do List pp.77-78 The act of creating a weekly list can prove to be effective towards my time management skills. However, I personally believe that a list can only act as a guideline. It is there to remind me of what important tasks are required attention. This is different than actually doing the task. Therefore, I don’t intend to make weekly to-do lists. However, as the article mentions, planning ahead in advance a few weeks makes it easier to put activities in context and see how daily goals can relate to long-term goals. With that in mind, I intend to develop more daily goals that contributes to long-term goals. Steps that will be taken include but not limited to: reading material before lectures, take
As you have read in my previous essay my goal is to improve my day to day routine doing so I will need to change my routine to follow my strict yet flexible schedule. In order to accomplish this goal I would plan my days out accordingly to my school schedule where school related task are prioritized. My schedule would go as follows, On
Sex. Let us talk about it. After all it is part of human nature, animals do it, people do it, yet as a woman one is expected to keep their sexual desires to themselves. Why? It is acceptable, if not expected, of a man to voice his sexual conquests but a woman is deemed promiscuous and unruly if she makes her desires visible. The Victorian ideals of purity and innocence have long been ingrained in society, even to the point of tainting the media in favor of chastity and modesty. Female representation in film has long battled against stereotyped visions of sex kittens and housewives who lack narrative arches, and ultimately bear the meaning of a male story rather than make one themselves. Throughout film history, one can notice spikes of female empowerment and, in particular female sexual desire, but overall the acceptance of sexual behavior has been placed primarily on the male character. Interestingly, research shows that during the 1960s a sexual revolution gave way to the notion that young women were more willing than young men to have sex before marriage, yet the media did not follow suit. These young women of the mid-20th century with sexual
Alice Walker combines the importance of time and place in Everyday Use. The story occurs in 1960’s during the African-American Civil Rights Movement. This was the time when African-Americans struggle with prejudice and poverty. They desire to maintain their minimal gain during the World War II and to define their personal identities as well as their heritage. The argument over family quilts takes place at the Deep South, where there are many African Americans, which match perfectly with the lifestyle the characters have in the story.
For example, before the intervention, I did not know that exercising would benefit me so much for my sleep. I realized that after I notice how easy it was to fall asleep after I used so much energy throughout the day at work. Planning ahead works really well too if you’re serious about meeting the deadline and really following it closely. There’s no point in making the weekly planner, without occasionally looking at it and planning ahead before the event, like an
11:09 p.m. -It isn't any night out of the ordinary. It's basically the same as every other Sunday night. The parties are all over, all the students are back and I know, most, like myself are wishing they hadn't gone out that night when homework was calling their name or wished they had come in earlier last night when their eyes were heavy, but their friends had convinced them otherwise. This is a lesson in procrastination. Mere hours are left before our first class begins, yet the televisions are still glowing, the stereos are still blasting an incessant flow of music at obnoxious levels and people are still streaming by my open door. Girls giggle as they talk of Johnny or Alex or Jimmy or what's his name and every couple minutes I catch the tail end of a meaningless conversation that distracts me from whatever it is I'm trying to accomplish.
Being able to adjust and be flexible is a tool that will help me in my life. Cal Newport writes of a study of a kid just like me and anyone else and how he incorporated a schedule of his day. He writes” Stephen once again whips out his list and makes a couple of rapid changes to the Today’s Schedule column.” (36). Stephen being able to be so flexible with his day allowed him to finish everything he needed to do, so that he can go to his party and be stress free. Director one day told about a technique similar to Stephen’s it is a list of your day on the left and the important tasks on the right that you need to get to. Me being able to adapt to the changes will prepare me for the real world because anything can happen in a second and it is up to me how I will react. Flexibility is key, but having the proper study skills can benefit when it comes to acing a
To increase the efficacy of my behavioral plan I came up with three specific goals to help me keep up with my intentions. First, I designated specific times on Tuesday, Thursd...
"Goal setting is actually a formal process for personal planning. By setting your goals on a routine basis (at the start of the year, every month, etc.), you propel yourself closer to achieving these goals." (Fowler, 2004) With that thought in mind I have set my first educational goal as a long term goal to earn a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree. This will open up my ability to strive for a career in my field of passion of computers. To overcome the issue of time management I have dedicated my self to using my Yahoo calendar and the calendar in Outlook Express more in-depth and more up to date than in the past. I will print out these calendars and post them on my bulletin board in my home office where I can reference and utilize them properly. My second educational goal is to complete every course for the University of Phoenix BSIT requirements with the best possible score for each class. I have the same issue of time management in relation to this goal. For this problem I have decided to create a semester (course) calendar with co-curricular activities so I can concentrate on completing my requirements for each course without being distracted with personal scheduling conflicts. My third and final educational goal is to complete the requirements for earning a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). This is considered one of my long, long range goals. The only issue related to this goal is that I don't know what is required for this certification. I'm sure with obtaining the requirements from a web source I can overcome this goal with no problem.
thinking, acting and feeling. Our routine life plays a major role in the building of these characteristics. According to the psychologists, the human personality develops from the skirmish between desire and restraint. Ego is the component of the personality which cannot be ignored. In order to respond to the real world, a child develops ego. As the personality develops further, children start dealing with the threatening and the harsh realities of the real world. It is the everyday life and experiences which shape up the whole personality of a child (Myers & DeWall, N.D).
My English Composition Course has been challenging regarding the amount of time needed to finish this course as it requires a lot of times and attention. Consequently, I have learned the best way to balance my schedule of activities through, utilizing the most available time. I have been working diligently on finding ways to help balance some of the challenges with work, home, school, and personal responsibilities. This course of study has taught me many valuable lessons; organization, time management, planning and research practice that I use in my daily routine. I have decided to do more planning ahead of schedule by means of being more disciplined, avoiding distraction, asking my significant other and my daughter to assist in the home with some of the responsibility. I start saving time, by planning a weekly schedule to guide me on what to do on a given time and date on accomplishing my daily task and responsibilities. On my timetable or schedule, I have formed a routine to set my Phone alarm to wake me up at 4:a.m, I would go into my study room to do reviews and research for, forty (40) minutes. At 4:45 a.m. I go for my morning jog for one hour (1) on the highway about two or three minutes away from my home, to relax my system. After embarking from my jog. by 6: a.m. instead of having to prepare breakfast alone, I have scheduled for my teenage daughter and my significant other to occasionally prepared breakfast; to save time, while I shower then get dress for work, dressing takes me about thirty-five minutes(35). I then take part in having breakfast around 7: a.m. which is on the schedule, and leave my home at 7:30 a.m. To reach work by 8:45 a.m. To avoid the long traffic. With Relating to my work reports, I will combined all reports to come up with one final draft, which enables me to plan things on how to systematically go about different activities. Addition to my schedule, I have asked my daughter to take
We live in a world of numerous opportunities. Wherever we look, there is something to be done, something to be achieved, something to accomplish. In such a time of never-ending opportunities, the one thing that can old us back is time. Time is the critical resource that limits how much we can do, how many opportunities we can exploit and which ones we can delve into. If we view life as a flowchart of simultaneous processes, time is the bottle-neck which constricts the capacity of the entire system. We can only function as much as the time we have allows us to. Great ideas and drive are hollow concepts that do not matter if we do not have the time to execute them. In such a scenario where a single resource has such impact on our life, it is
PMBOK guide defines TM as the “Use of available time and your own productivity along with the appropriate planning and management of the project schedule” highlighting the link between Time Management and productivity and its closely knit relationship to scope and cost areas. Max Wideman presents a wider definition for TM as the “function required to maintain appropriate allocation of time to the overall conduct of the project through the successive stages of its natural life-cycle, by means of the processes of time planning, time estimating, time scheduling, and schedule control.” Ultimately at it’s core however, TM is about time, its planning and control during all stages of the project. A further look into Wideman’s definition of TM by means of identifying its importance throughout the entire project life-cycle (Initiation, planning, execution, controlling and close-out) is required. It is hoped that by analysing how TM tools and techniques can positively and negatively effect the different stages of the Project life cycle a better understanding of productivity, TM and project success will result.

My professional development topic was time management. Ironically, I missed the first professional development assignment. Due to poor time management skills, I did not get the assignment turned in before midnight when it was due. The last 2 semesters at Ivy Tech, spring and summer 2016, I have had poor time management skills. Procrastination is a thing I have always struggled with, and something I want to work on.
Goals are an important part of life. For me, they provide direction, stability, and motivation. I have always been keen to setting goals in my life, long-term and short-term. There have been times where I simply gave up on setting goals because when they would turn out different than I had expected I became a little discouraged. As I have aged a bit more, I acknowledge and understand that this is part of the goal setting/planning and action process. Lately, I have pushed some more short-term goals aside simply because of time restraints, and tiredness. However, I want to make some changes not only for myself, but also for my family. In this paper I will present two objectives and three tasks associated with meeting those objectives. I will do these objectives and tasks for two weeks. Finally, I will measure the success and the outcome from these objectives and tasks at the end.
