Nowadays women are changing the culture on how our society see. Men are being exposed to feminised values. Which exposes them into acceptance. But not at the rate it should be. Still having trouble for men to accept women.Researchers have conclude that law enforcement has little femine values.
Not all women are going to accept the label of “women”. Women only progress when they have acceptance by their collegues. When their collegues have a hard time accepting them it brings them to their defeat.

...erall, I think that this interview has taught me that every law enforcement officer have a different opinion and it should be voiced. Mr. Cayette told me exactly how he felt without holding back. It was different just listening to the responses because it was said by an actual officer instead of just another ordinary person expressing how they feel. The interview also made me realize that people cannot be mad at every police officer for one police officer’s wrong doing. According to National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, “There are more than 900,000 sworn law enforcement officers now serving in the United States, which is the highest figure ever. About 12 percent of those are female.” People should stop listening to the media all the time because it does convince people to hate police officers because there are many police officers in the U.S. with good intentions.
For a long time ago, women just did anything at home: clean the house, wash clothes, cook the meals, and work outside the house and nutrient their children. Then they followed to order from their husband at home, and listen to the words of their husband. We will likely see even more changes in the near future due to the many proposals to increase the number of women and ethnic minority officers in our police forces. An example of near change is the use of a hiring quota system. Under this system there is a requirement to recruit a specified number of minority and/or women officers. This may require the modification of standards and qualifications that could discriminate against these groups in order to achieve the required quota. Although this is a future option, we can see its methods are already being implemented in the past decades abolishment of height, weight, and age restrictions.
When the criminal justice system was established, the main objective was to create neutrality and fairness between the sexes. Even though people might believe that there is no such thing as ‘stereotyping’ in the criminal justice system, it is quite obvious that women are constantly being look down upon because of their sex. In general, women tend to be treated like fragile objects that could break at any moment; the truth is that women can be strong and courageous just like men. Society stereotypes women and the criminal justice system is no different.
Women police officers face many stressors. Female officers are more likely to encounter disapproval from fellow officers, and also from friends and family for entering police work. On the other hand, the peers, supervisors, and the public questions female officers’ capability to tackle the emotional and physical rigors of the police work, and this is even when research shows women can do so. As such, the need for female officers to prove themselves to the public and the male officers constitutes some major stressor for women officers. In essence, female police officers do suffer quite more from the stress of their jobs than their male colleagues.

Women in the criminal justice system was an idea that was virtually unheard of before almost 200 years ago. During this time, society established that men were to be the breadwinners, and that women were to take care of the children and the home. When women expressed the desire to get out into the workforce, there was some backlash resulting from the notion. However, when they showed interest in getting involved with the police department, most men immediately took offense. They used methods such as legislation and covert discrimination to try and dissuade women from policing and keep them in their traditional roles as wives and mothers. Despite their efforts, women have grown to become vital members in the criminal justice system today. Proving their male counterparts wrong, women held on to the concept that they could be valuable in other ways and become hard-working police officers who protect and serve their communities on the frontlines.
Our society has become one that is very diverse. Law enforcement agencies (local, state, and federal) for our changing society need to include an increase representation of women and minorities, definite improvement in leadership skills, and to strengthen community policing. These are all issues of great importance, which are no longer going to be pushed aside.
For my topic I have chosen gender roles. I believe this topic is important to study because, it is often stated or shown in all forms of media that a woman should be the one cooking and cleaning, while a man should be the one working and fixing anything that may be broken. This is something I have heard all my life especially since my culture is patriarchal so my father was always the one working full time, while my mother stayed home cleaning and cooking day by day.
Recruiting officers is a vital job for any city, state, federal department. The people that are recruited could be the next leaders of the department. Most departments try to pull in the most diverse and qualified applicants that are looking to make law enforcement a career. They also look for applicants that have a commitment in severing their community. The recruiters have a bigger pull of people with the unemployment rate going up. There are more people going back to school to study criminal law and are looking for a career in law enforcement. The recruiters look for people that hold knowledge in law, communication skills, self- discipline, and attention to detail. The new recruit should want to stay learning new things by furthering their education in law enforcement. The recruiters must hold a high standard for hiring police officers because of what the community expects from their law enforcement. Most recruiters have to go by the department’s code of ethics that each department has set for their officers. This has made recruiters come up with new ways of trying to recruit officers. Women bring unique skills and techniques to policing such as: compassion and understanding during undesirable and traumatic incidents. Although, women do not possess the muscles or physical strength as the male officers, they do have effective invaluable interpersonal skills. Females are viewed as threats by their male peers.
