In this this essay I will attempt to compare to what extent the given posters for the given film, Spiderman reflects the evolution of the superhero film and how the posters reflect the evolution of filming technology, by paying attention to theme, characterisation and overall appeal. It will also highlight which poster is most effective for advertising the film and which has best represented the idea of Spiderman. It could be said that poster 5 and 6 attempt to show a 3D image, focused on Spiderman himself, both including buildings - showing his ability to climb and swing from one building to another, using the powers he has gained from the spider which has bitten him. The city appears larger and of greater importance, which shows what he is now capable of after exploring is new powers and abilities to their utmost. Again, posters 5 and 6 are direct, and kept fairly simple. Spiderman is the direct focus point. There is no direct evidence of any special effects which have been used, where as in posters 7 and 8 more colours are used, there is broken glass in the corners of the main frame, the texture of his costume is more precise, he is portrayed as something more than what he was. Each poster represents a basic theme. The characteristics of Spiderman are therefore clearer in poster 7 and 8, because of improved filming technology, special effects, characteristics and appeal. As the audience and era changed, so have the filming techniques which have been illustrated by each poster. In the beginning he is seen as an amateur and as an individual who is still learning and experimenting with the things he is now going to be faced with. People are still getting to know him, his intentions were always good but not everyone believed it. He evolved with technology and his audience. He became independent and more dependable.
