Working with people, helping others to achieve their day to day living has always been my passion. When my close friend and his family were going through some hardship in their life, thus when I realized that helping others was not just about assisting with personal care, giving out medication, patching up wounds or broken skin and assisting to the toilet. As there had been some issues with alcohol and drug misuse, the social work team had to intervene to ensure that the health and safety of the family was maintained. The professionalism, commitment and the positive outcome from the involvement from the social work team made me realize that ’this is what I have always wanted to be’. Doing a social work degree at university will equip me with the right knowledge, skills and support to go and achieve my ambitions. At present I am doing an access to social science course which I believe will develop my skills to go further and study social work at university. Worked in different care settings ranging from care homes, residential home, and domiciliary care units to hospitals. I have undertaken some in-house training like first aid, healthy safety, food hygiene and manual handing. I also trained for PEG care, tracheotomy care, safe handling of medicine and achieved a NVQ level 2 in care. In my previous employment I was promoted to care team leader for my unit. My main responsibilities were to organize the Rota for the unit, take on supervisions, ordering clinical stock and client medication, writing client monthly reviews and reports. Liaising with management and other professions like nurses, doctors, social workers and consultants. With no previous experience of higher role, I found it challenging at first but this helped me to develop my communication skills, team play, leadership, organizational skills, and managing my work
