Professional Introduction
As I have been blessed with the opportunity to have journeyed various academic programs my educational and professional goals have changed due to the fact of the need in the community and population I am serving. As a result my academic goal while I am a student at Walden University is earn a vast knowledge of what I can offer as a social worker. To be able to network with other social work professionals and gain insight about the need for other services in regards to populations at risk. Another goal of mine is to pass my classes with the knowledge and understanding of what I am being taught. Walden’s mission statement corresponds with my own philosophy and goals due to the fact I want to be able to provide adequate support and services to the populations that I am serving. At this agency we placed our clients in two programs. Clients were either placed in short-term and long term programs. The short-term program was geared towards clients who had the ability to own or rent a place to live but needed further assistance. The long-term program was geared towards people who did not have the funds or means to own or rent a place to live so they needed to stay in the shelter that was on our campus grounds.

During my graduate program I interned at a Catholic Charities Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. As a result, I was placed in a school. I was placed at a head start school that services low-income families ages 3-5. During this time I would engage in play therapy with my student in order to enhance any skills that presented as a challenge for them. The skills that I needed to focus on for many of my clients were attention span building, interacting with other classmates/teacher, sharing, and other social skills that are needed in order for a child to be ready for
