Social Construction Race Race has been one of the most outstanding situations in the United States all the way from the 1500s up until now. The concept of race has been socially constructed in a way that is broad and difficult to understand. Social construction can be defined as the set of rules are determined by society’s urges and trends. The rules created by society play a huge role in racialization, as the U.S. creates laws to separate the English or whites from the nonwhites. Europeans, Indigenous People, and Africans were all racialized and victimized due to various reasons. Both the Europeans and Indigenous People were treated differently than African American slaves since they had slightly more freedom and rights, but in many ways they are also treated the same. The social construction of race between the Europeans, Indigenous People, and Africans led to the establishment of how one group is different from the other. Europeans are one of the groups that have been racialized during the colonial times. Since the Europeans strived for power and expansion to gain wealth for their motherland, they voyaged around to look for new places to control or get resources from. During their explorations, the Europeans also encountered other groups that were also racialized for a long period of time. When the Europeans migrated to the colonies they were racially different from other groups. When the Europeans arrived in North America, many saw them as a power hungry group and that they were always wanting more even though they were rich and had a vast technological advancement such as traveling on immense ships and use of guns. Since the Europeans strived for power and wealth, they tried to look for a source of cheap, reliable, and co... ... middle of paper ... ...n and separation among each group. The Europeans were the ones who started the race controversy due to their greed for power and expansion. Because of their encounter with the Native Americans, the Native American lifestyle eventually altered such as trading their fur for firearms and acclimatizing to a new culture. Even though they seemed to respect the Europeans at first, they later saw the Europeans as ruthless. Besides Native Americans, the European powers also profoundly obstructed the Native Americans by capturing them for labor along with treating them as non-human beings. Due to European powers, both the Native Americans and Africans lost sight of themselves. Since both groups lost sight of themselves, they were stereotyped in many negative ways that affected them in a long run. In other words, race is a social construction built on the progress of society.
