Did you know that the youngest professional soccer player in the world was only 20 months old?! Well, you don’t need to be that young, but I think that George Washington Middle School in Dubuque, Iowa could really benefit from having soccer as one of their spring sports. Soccer is a great sport that doesn’t require much equipment, we have the space for playing it at our school, and anyone can play. Now, let’s talk about how great the sport really is.

Although soccer does require some equipment, it does not require as much as other sports. Volleyball requires knee pads, which students bring in themselves. Soccer requires shin guards, which students could also bring in themselves. Other sports such as football, require lots of extra protective pads and helmets that the school has to provide for them. As stated by the CDC, overall injury for girls and boys soccer was 2.36 and 2.43, while football was 4.36. So, even with all that football padding, they still get hurt more than soccer players. Also, volleyball needs a net, basketball needs a hoop, football needs a field goal, and soccer needs a goal as well. Therefore, soccer requires less equipment than other sports. Students would also want to play because the rules are very simple and both girls and boys can play.
