Single-Parent Struggles: A Close Look at Tupac and Kanye's Upbringings

In America, 60% of all families live on a fixed income while 75% of those families are run by a single parent. The majority of the single-parent families are run by a female. For the many American children, they don’t have a father figure in their lives. That means that those single mothers must teach their children all on their own. It’s especially hard when those single mothers must teach their children all on their own. It’s especially hard when single mothers must teach their sons mainly because females can’t relate to males in every which way and vice versa with single fathers and their daughters. Two examples of this situation are rappers, Tupac and Kanye West. They had two different upbringings, but both had a similar dilemma when it came to their mothers. Nevertheless, they both adored their mothers very much despite going through trials and tribulations. Tupac was born in East Harlem, NY, moved to Oakland, California. Tupac was not the richest compared to many of the kids. He grew up with his baby sister, who also had to go through the pains that Tupac also went through. Their mother, Afeni Shakur, was a single poor mother who tried to make ends meet while trying to supply for herself and her kids simultaneously. Afeni was a crack addict who would always make miracles despite what Tupac thought. Tupac’s mother couldn’t keep her son from off of the streets. Tupac hung around negative influences, sold drugs, and just couldn’t escape the police. After he moved out of his mother’s house, he started to help his mom by sending her money through her mailbox.
