The argument of the two most popular religions, Christianity and Islam religions has been a constant battle inside the minds of each of its followers for generations. The books of Christianity and Islam are The Holy Bible and the Qur’an respectively. The Bible is a collection of texts from several authors whereas the Qur’an was written by its only prophet, Muhammad. The Bible allegedly was derived from God and was passed on to his prophets where his word could be spread across mankind. The Qur’an is the most sacred piece of literature in the Arabic language. The Quran is a retelling of the recitations of Allah. These words came from the angel Gabriel, also known as the Holy

The story vaguely appears in verses 30-37 of Surah 2: The Women and verses 11-25 of Surah 7: The Heights. In the Qur’anic version of Adam and Eve, Allah created Adam from clay and by breathing life into him. Allah put Adam and his wife (who isn’t named) into a garden located in the heavens (unlike the Garden of Eden which was located on Earth). Allah tells Adam and his wife to not eat the fruit from a specific tree in the garden and warns Adam of the temptations of Satan (Adam and Eve are never warned about Satan in the Biblical version). After Adam and his wife eat the forbidden fruit, Allah sends them to Earth to live until Judgement …show more content…
In the Bible it is written that there is only one God that has three identities: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In the Qur’an however, it is written that there is only one god, but he has no relatives, no offspring, and no equal. In the Qur’an, The Holy Spirit is the angel Gabriel not another identity of God (Allah). “They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One Allah. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them” (5:73). In the Bible, Jesus is conceived by Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is crucified and then rises from the dead. In the Qur’an, Jesus was only a prophet of Allah. Jesus was also never crucified and never rose from the dead according to the Qur’an. “That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.; but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not: - Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise;” (4:157-158). In the Bible and the Qur’an, man is prone to sin and needs salvation. Salvation can be obtained through spirituality and genuineness. “Nor do I absolve my
Both Christianity and Islam mirror Judaism. From Judaism, Christianity and Islam derived the doctrines of monotheism, prophecy, resurrection, and a belief in the existence of heaven and hell. Both Islam and Christianity have a holy book. Christians consider the Bible the inspired word of God, however Muslims believe that the Koran is the literal word of God. Mohammed was merely transcribing the words of Allah, much as a court reporter does. Muslims therefore attribute greater spiritual
(John L. Esposito 2012 islamicity.org). Christianity accepts God’s covenant with and revelation to the Jews but traditionally has seen itself as superseding Judaism with the coming of Jesus. Thus, Christianity speaks of its new covenant and New Testament. So, too, Islam and Muslims recognize Judaism and Christianity: their biblical prophets (among them Adam, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus) and their revelations (the Torah and the New Testament, or Message of Jesus). In addition, Islam makes frequent reference to Jesus and to the Virgin Mary, who is cited more times in the Quran than in the New Testament (Esposito J,
does not need to be redeemed. Muslims do not need a saviour in order to forgive their sins and ascend into heaven. They do not see Jesus as divine, rather they see him as a prophet of God. In fact, Muslims believe that Jesus did not die on the cross. The Quran states, “They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, though it was made to appear like that to them. Those that disagreed about him are full of doubt, with no knowledge to follow, only supposition: they certainly did not kill him, God raised him up to Himself” (Sura 4:157-158). As a result, Muslims believe that Jesus did not die on the cross, rather God has raised his soul from to Heaven.
Two of the world 's largest religious practices are Christianity and Islam. Christianity is the biggest religion in the world with 2.4 billion followers while Islam has 1.3 billion followers. Both religions have similar straits especially since the two histories begin with the first human creation of Adam and Eve and the Prophet Abraham. Despite their similarities, there has been intense wars between the two faiths and tension between the two religions exist today. Major similarities and differences between the two faiths are seen in how the religions view God, the understanding of heaven and hell, along with important prophets. Christians and Muslims believe in the same heaven and hell, same God despite different names, and same prophets however
Contained in the many intricate and poetic Surahs of the Qur’an are retellings of a number of famous stories of the Hebrew Bible, known to Jews as the Torah, Prophets, and Writings. However, the Qur’an’s account of the lives of certain biblical characters often differs in significant ways from the Jewish version. While a believer in the divine nature of the Qur’an may claim that differences in facts stem from distortions of G-d’s message as recorded in Jewish holy books, both Muslims and non-Muslims might agree that the differences in emphasis are intentional. A more cynical observer might claim that the Qur’an changed the known Bible stories to suit its purposes. By choosing to include certain parts of a famous story and leaving out others, the story itself takes on a very different significance. Occasionally, the Qur’an will also discuss parts of the story which are entirely left out of the Torah, in which case a Muslim may claim the Torah did not deem those facts important for its own reasons. A cynical observer would claim the Qur’an made these additions to make its own message clearer.
These texts provide spiritual guidelines on what to do and what not to do as followers of each faith. Although both religions are of two different practices, they both teach about monotheism. Monotheism instills the belief of God's total power/knowledge; his divine mercy and forgiveness; and human weaknesses/sins. In the first sura of the Qur'an, "The Opening", one sees the Islamic religion describe God as reflected in monotheism. "Praise be to God, Lord of the Universe/ The compassionate, the Merciful,/ Sovereign of the Day of Judgment!/You alone we worship, and to You alone/ we turn for help" (The Exordium 1.1-5). Here, they describe God as their everything and the same is done in the Christian religion. "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created" (Revelation 4.11). Both establish God as the creator of all and recognize him as being the most
The world religions of Islam and Christianity may have their differences to the naked eye, but when you take a closer look into their histories similarities arise. They both went through transformations that had drastic impacts on the way they were controlled and the way that the religion was taught to the followers. Christianity and Islam have both experienced splits between their members due to the fact that followers thought that their beliefs were the correct way to practice the religion. While these transformations are long in the past, the splits that have occurred within each religion continue to have lasting effects on Islam and Christianity to this day.
The sources of understanding of the figure of Jesus Christ in the two religions are, of course, Quran and the Holy Bible — the most respectable books, which include the main concepts of each faith. The information about this important figure cannot be denied, because even historians admitted his existence. The birth of the little child was described in a similar way by the two religious believes. Both: the Bible and the Quran believe that he was born by the virgin woman, whose name was Mary. Bible says: “..."the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger" (Luke 1:6-7, Christianity and Islam). On the other hand the Quran also describe Jesus and...
Both Christians and Islam believe in one Supreme Being but according to Christian they call Him God while Muslims call him Allah. The two religions conceptualize God in different ways. Muslims view Allah as one God, this is emphasized through the word ‘tawhid’ which in Islam means “absolute unity”. Christians on the other hand view God as three holy beings, God the father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit. According to theology this is known as the holy trinity. Early Christians did not understand the meaning of the word trinity which led to the thought that they worship three gods. However, through Christian teachings the meaning of trinity is brought out through the concept of love. Love cannot exist in seclusion ’God is Love’; hence God cannot exist in one form. This is considered blas...
Although Islam and Christianity differ in major ways, they also share some similarities in their belief of God. First of all, Christianity and Islam are both monotheistic religions; worshipping only one God. While both believe in the same God, he is called by two completely different names. He is referred to as "Allah" by Muslims and "God" by Christians. The basic creed of Islam is brief: “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah”. Islam teaches that there is one God: the creator and sustainer of the universe, whom is compassionate and just. He calls all the people to believe in Him and worship Him. When someone disobeys the Lord, they may be forgiven if they are sincerely repent. In Christianity, the first, and most important of the Ten Commandments states that "I am the Lord thy God. Thou shalt have no other gods before me". Identical to Muslims, Christians also believe that their God is the creator and sustainer of the universe. The Bible begins with the creation of the Earth by God in seven days.
The Christians have their book known as the Bible. Lastly, the Islamic people have their book known as the Quran. All three of these books have scriptures. These three major religions also share a belief that there is one major area that they claim as their Holy Land. The Jews and the Christians claim Jerusalem, Israel as their Holy Land while the Islamic people claim Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
In each of the religions there is the belief that God is the only God and he is neither equal or lesser to anyone or anything. In this belief both religions shun any kind of worship of a any God or idol other than the God spoken of in the Bible and Quran. Islam recognizes many of the prophets and history figures in the Bible as what the Bible describes them meaning that they also believe in the existence of Jesus. Except where the Bible speaks of Jesus being God or a extension of God, the Quran states that God is not Jesus and Jesus is not god.
The Bible is a collection of sixty books that was written by diverse of authors, including the apostles and the disciple of Jesus. The Bible divided into two Testaments; the Old and New Testament. The Old Testament or the old contract is a collection of thirty-six books and the New Testament has twenty seven books. The New Testament is a contract between God and the humanity through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Koran was written by Muhammad, a prophet of God. Muslims believed that he received a message from Angel Gabriel and wrote the Koran. However, Both the Bible and the Koran are the words of God. The Christians believe in the resurrection of Christ Jesus has the son of God while the Muslims do not believe Jesus Christ as the son of God.
The Quran reads that God is just one god and that there are no different parts of him. Christians believe that Jesus is the son of god and is part of the trinity. The Islamic people just believe that Jesus was sent has a messenger and like Muhammad, was a prophet of god. As for Christians the seem him as a messenger and also the second member of the trinity and that Jesus was God himself. The trinity is made up of three parts, the father, the son, and the holy spirit. Another big difference when talking about Jesus within the two texts is Jesus death. We see that Muslims do not believe Jesus death happen on a cross, instead believe God lifted him up of him. We can see the in the text of the Quran $156-157, as to what it suggests about what happen. “They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but they thought they did. God lifted him up to His presence. God is Almighty, All-Wise” When looking at the opposite side of the story we see that Christians do believe that Jesus died. They believe he willingly sacrificed himself to save mankind from sin. They believe he
Introduction In both Islam and Christianity there are many scriptural mentions of marriage in the Quran and the Bible because of its importance and how sacred it is religiously. In both religions, a marriage is important because it will lead to a family, which continues a religion and a society. In Islam, a man can marry a Christian woman but Christianity does not allow Christians to marry Muslims.
