Technology is affecting the very way we act whether you realize it or not. Many argue that using technology makes you more likely to not be socially isolated. Gardner Middle School should undergo in national “Shut Down Your Screen Week” due to technology beginning to be an uncontrollable urge, affect to way we act, as well as resulting in a difficulty focusing. To begin, people can become addicted to dopamine, a chemical in the human brain that is released when one is having much stimulation by entertainment, without it people can feel very bored. Dopamine can have the same effect drugs can, dopamine can become a necessity for humans when receiving too much. Matt Richtel states, “a dopamine squirt that researchers say can be addictive. In its absence, people feel bored.”(Richtel 9) Many believe, people can keep a phone handy a get a quick entertainment fill if they start to feel bored. But simply, cellular services and wifi may go down and many cannot do anything about it. …show more content…
When obsessing with technology people begin to want to use it even when in classrooms and other places where cell phones are not permitted. In technology slang terms are often used and many may start to use slangs in formal meetings and other places where people need to be as formal as they can. Mr. Richtel also said when vehicle drivers are using mobile phones they can cause wrecks and that changes the way we act.(Richtel 9) Some say, technology is available to give people the knowledge we need. Although, technology is not available when taking things such as exams and other things you need to study
The topic of technology and our society has become a very controversial subject today. Many people believe that technology is an essential component of our modern world, helping us to improve communication from farther distances as well as giving us easy access to important information. On the other hand, there is the opinion that too much technology is affecting social interactions and our basic development. “Technology…is a queer thing, it brings you great gifts with one hand, and stabs you in the back with the other.” (Carrie Snow.) The CBC Documentary “Are We Digital Dummies” displayed the pros and cons when it comes to modern technology that we use in the western world everyday.
Although Though technology can be good, it can be worse than good, such as people always with their faces on their phones and headphones in their ears, people neglecting books and using more online text, and people wasting their lives watching TV.Children now know how to use a phone faster than they can
Did you know that technology can be just as addicting as a cigarette? Recently, researchers have been testing the effects of the constant usage of screens on our bodies. To many people, using screens is very convenient and helpful and can help many students with their everyday homework. However, our school should still participate in Shut Down Your Screen Week because it will allow us to focus on what is important, lets us better evaluate social situations with a well night’s rest, and too much use of screens can give us shallow relationships.
Imagine an entire week of class without any cell phones, computers, or any other devices that can cause as a distraction to students, or cause you to lose their attention. Wouldn’t that week just be great? Well this is now a realistic thought, now that “Shut Down Your Screen Week” has been proposed. After reading Social Media as Community, Is Google Making Us Stupid, and Attached to Technology and Paying a Price the decision is clear; we should participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week”. Although devices, such cellular phones and computers, are time savers and make us more efficient at finding relevant information, a week without them is well in need. This is mainly because the internet and electronic devices can be addictive, cause attention problems, and stop students from learning. We need to come to a halt with our consistent use of digital technology in order to help our students.
Technology can disrupt people’s train of thought. To begin with, many people around the world use technology. Electronics can help students and also affect them in many ways, but whether or not shutting down all electronics can help. Schools should participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because of many reasons.
In the United States by 2016, approximately 185 million people were users of any social media, and that number is estimated to grow to over 200 million people by 2020. “Shut Down Your Screen Week” is an entire week where schools go without any technology, and schools and parents should oppose the idea of implementing this in their lives and their children’s lives. Some people believe that a “Shut Down Your Screen Week” would allow families to have some quality time together that would not occur with electronics brought into the picture. However, people should not partake in the “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because technology positively affects one’s social life, promotes diverse ideas, and impacts daily lives in many ways.
In the current society, there are new technologies every day. As these different technologies increase, the number of users are also increasing. These users are dedicating their time to the Internet. It could be for work, school, or social interactions. School districts are now afraid that students will spend more time on the Internet. Instead, they should be spending their time studying. As a result of this epidemic, schools made an approach to the idea of “Shut Down Your Screen” week. This idea requires the staff and students to have no contact with any type of technology for a whole week. Teachers are not allowed to teach with any SmartBoards, projectors, laptops, or computers. Students are only allowed to learn with textbooks and write on paper. Bayless High School should take part in “Shut Down Your Screen” week because the idea will help students learn better. Also, the usage of social interactions will decrease.
Technology is used daily by students, for many purposes, but some say it is getting out of hand. Shut Down Your Screen Week is a national campaign to encourage people to shut down any form of electronic media for a whole week. By doing this, it will allow students to use other ways of doing daily tasks. There are two main reasons why I endorse this campaign, one, technology is making us more stupid, and second, technology changes the way people think and behave.
“I’m sorry I didn’t hear you. I was responding to a text message. What were you saying?” Have you ever heard this expression or something similar; we all have. This is clear evidence of how cellphones can be a very big distraction in many social settings. Some people check their cell phone first thing in the morning. It is so easy to waste time playing on your cell phone rather than doing something productive. Cell phone use, can cause harm physically, socially, and academically, although cell phones have some good qualities, advancements in technology is causing the world to gradually become dependent on technology.
However, this also discusses the effects of technology on various aspects of our everyday personal experiences, both with each other and with the world around us. On the other hand, technologies such as cell phones have become a problem in getting students to focus in class and distracting drivers and thus, resulting in vehicle accidents. Technology is beneficial, but can also become an inescapable distraction in our lives. It is important to view technology as having the ability to make our lives better or worse, yet also as having the ability to change our personal lives and behavioral patterns. The use of technology makes our daily tasks easier, such as a better sense of direction while driving via a GPS, safety features in our cars such as Auto Drive and Auto Park.
Today’s society has gradually transformed to a more technology driven environment. Many people choose to communicate using electronic devices opposed to more old-fashioned means such as letter writing. In the book, Technopoly: The Surrender of Culture to Technology, author Neil Postman described how he believes technology is the reason today’s society and culture is deteriorating. I have read several articles the provide examples and different insights on how technology contributed to the change in society. In the article, Technology in Today’s Classroom: Are You a Tech-Savvy Teacher, written by Stephanie Hicks, she describes how technology has contributed towards a productive learning environment in the classroom. Another article named Development of a Portable Embedded Patient Monitoring System, written by Jungmuk, Sungil and Dongik, states that the development of the portable monitoring system, an electronic device, aids with patient care in today’s society. In addition those articles, authors Sumayya Syed and Abu Nurullah wrote an article, Use of Mobile Phones and the Social Lives of Urban Adolescents: A Review of Literature, illustrates how cellular phones with today’s means of communication, especially within the teenagers. In spite of Postman’s theory that technology is negatively affecting society, technology contributes to the development of society by improving education skills, medical practices and means of communication.
There has been a long lasting debate in the resent years on whether or not technology has a positive or negative impact on today’s kids. As the years move on, the negative effects have begun to outnumber the positive. The generations previous spent their childhood making forts, fishing, and using their imaginations, contrary to today’s generations who spend their free time texting, playing video games, and watching videos. Damaging effects such as decreases in school performances, addiction to electronics, and lack of brain development have all been linked to the electronic media stimulation. In order to prevent the future generation from following in the current generations footsteps, one must full comprehend just how much technology impacts
Technology affects everyone - and everyone! Whether positive or negative, we are all affected, how it manifests itself into problems for youth will be studied and debated for years. Balancing technology throughout the educational process and keeping with current trends and uses of technology will affect everyone. Technology has transformed our youth’s daily and social lives. How do we measure the effects of technology on our ability to socialize or have a successful social life?
The average person spends about eight hours of their day on technology, whether it is watching television or being on social media. Clearly as it is stated above, the average person spends a long amount of time (eight hours) on technology, but how many of those people isolated? Technology can cause a person to become isolated, because technology consumes a majority of a person’s day. Cell phones and computers can cause a person to be less social. Technology even surrounds us during the day through out classes in schools and work offices. Technology does take up people’s time, and causes many problems.
Mobile phones are undeniable today. Almost everybody has a mobile phone. Formerly, it only functioned as a portable mean of communication. The function of a mobile phone has developed into entertainment. Furthermore, mobile phone has also come into the schools. However, it has both positive and negative effect on students. This essay argues that mobile phones will bring more negative than positive effect for students. Of course, students use it as a mean of communication and sometimes for an emergency call if they need it. Yet, they would use their mobile phones for both bullying and cheating. Also, mobile phones will make students lost concentration during their study.
